Job Description

Shift Pattern: We are looking for a Transport Clerk to work 42 hours a week, on the following shift:

  • Wednesday: Midday - 6pm
  • Thursday: 6am - 6pm
  • Friday: 6am - 6pm
  • Saturday: 6am - 6pm
Key Responsibilities:
  • You will ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Transport Office. Ensuring drivers depart on time, compile and process vital information, issuing journey details and booking staff on and off shift.
  • Deputise for the Transport Shift Manager in their absence.
  • To effectively communicate to customers, depots, third parties and colleagues.
  • Ensuring incoming calls are answered and dealt with promptly.
  • A full pre-brief on departing drivers on departure, and also debriefing them on return from each journey.
  • Generating driver journey sheets from in-house computer systems and the issuing of the relevant paperwork to drivers.
  • Continually monitoring all collections/delivery vehicles.
  • Complete all issue logs.
  • Ensure work station are kept clean and tidy.
  • Other duties that may arise from operational requirements.
Knowledge and Experience required:
  • Full Understating of current UK Transport Legislation or and a willing to learn.
  • Educated to high school (secondary) standard.
  • Strong Retail experience and knowledge of FMG warehousing and distribution an advantage, training will be given.
  • A knowledge of a Transport operation and associated Legislation advantageous.
  • Ability to communicate clearly instructions to the drivers.
  • Working knowledge of transport/driver hours and regulations (training will be given)
  • Candidates should have excellent PC skills and be comfortable using Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience using Tachomaster, traffic management and vehicle tracking software would be preferable, however training will be given where required to the successful candidate.
  • Delivery of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs to be set on commencement of employment)
