Role Overview:Senior Counsel is a senior management-level position responsible for accomplishing results through direct day-to-day legal activities in coordination with the Legal team. The overall objective of this role is to provide legal support, advice and guidance acrossa broad range of practice areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for legal matters affecting UK Consumer (UKC) and International Personal Bank EMEA (IPB) businesses within Citi Global Wealth EMEA Region. This position offers an opportunity to work on a wide range of matters relatedto UKC and IPB and be involved in advising in relation to evolving regulatory landscape and implementation of changes in target market and strategy of the businesses. The successful candidate will advise UKC/IPB businesses in accordance with applicable lawsand regulations and internal Citi policies and standards. The UKC and IPB businesses have 2 booking centers: UK and Jersey. The UK booking center is housed in Citis purpose-built UK bank, Citibank UK Limited (CUKL). The successful candidate will have an opportunity to advice on product related matters, on broaderprudential regulatory requirements as well as on managing change resulting from Citis decision to focus on clients with complex wealth management needs in the UK. Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the business on all legal matters affecting day-to-day activities of UKC/IPB business, including client documentation.
  • Liaising with Product, Compliance and other functions, as required in order to support the business activities.
  • Advising in relation to agreements with 3rd party vendors.
  • Providing on-going support and advice to the business in maintaining appropriate governance structure.
  • Advising the business on validating existing sales practices and product programs vis--vis any applicable laws and Citi policies.
  • Advising on complaints, litigation and liaison with the relevant regulatory bodies, as required.
  • Providing support and advice to the business regarding on-going projects and new regulatory developments, including Consumer Duty.
  • Advising on prudential regulatory requirements and corporate governance in relation to CUKL.
  • Supporting the business with ongoing issue identification and pro-active assessment of documentation and/or process improvement opportunities.
  • Apply comprehensive understanding of multiple function areas, acting as a subject matter expert in area of expertise to achieve goals of the function
  • Resolve moderately complex legal issues with moderate impact on business/function segment and provide legal advisory services
  • Partner with business/functional line management in recommending, developing and executing business plans within permissible statutory and regulatory frameworks
  • Coordinate resources to meet business needs and ensure efficient delivery of legal services in business or country
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firms reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adheringto Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountabilitywith those who fail to maintain these standards.
  • The role may involve a supervisory responsibility, depending on previous supervisory experience of the successful candidate.
Qualifications:
  • Qualified solicitor in England and Wales with significant post qualification experience.
  • Previous experience working as a qualified solicitor in major international bank, a large law firm and/or a regulatory authority in the UK
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant laws and practices
  • Proven analytical and organizational skills
  • Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication
  • Commercial and regulatory awareness, as well as good judgment, are essential skills for the successful candidate.
Education:
  • Bachelors degree/University degree or equivalent experience
