Experience with multi-national corporations and on infrastructure projects is an asset and good interpersonal skills is a requirement. Successful candidate will be educated to degree or post-graduate level in a relevant science, geosciences, engineering or other environmental-related degree.The position is based in Jacobs Belfast, Northern Ireland office, although consideration would also be given to applicants working from Dublin.Fluent spoken and written English are mandatory. Clients and Jacobs team are international and working knowledge of other languages is also beneficial. Technical specialisation in hydrogeology, land contamination investigation and characterisation or remediation would be a plus. The candidate should have experience contributing to groundwater monitoring plans, environmental sampling and site investigations, and land contamination land remediation projects.Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Coordinating, leading and/or supporting basic field projects such as groundwater sampling
  • Contributing to deliverables by evaluating data and writing text for groundwater monitoring factual technical memorandums & site investigations reports
  • Supporting undertaking of generic and detailed quantitative risk assessments within the UK CLR11 regulatory framework for both soil and groundwater.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of UK and European regulatory guidance, risk assessment methodologies, best practices, UK contaminated land issues, etc.
  • Evaluating data, forming client relationships, budget control, and co-ordination of in-house and external specialists and contractors.
  • The successful candidate must have initiative, energy, enthusiasm and commitment and be flexible in work approach. Some travel to project sites and meeting would be required, though the primary work location will be Belfast, Northern Ireland, although Dublin, Republic of Ireland, would also be considered. Qualifications Essential:
  • Candidates should have between 6 -10 years’ experience
  • Candidate should have good people skills, be driven, and also work well in a team environment. A balance of technical and field skills is sought to flexibly contribute to projects. In addition, the following are key attributes:
  • Educational background in a science, geosciences, environmental or engineering related discipline
  • Proven project-related experience for contaminated land field
  • Capable of supporting field work including use of groundwater monitoring & sampling equipment
  • Understanding of UK environmental and planning regulations
  • Human health and groundwater risk assessment and risk-based decision making
  • Producing land contamination aspects of Environmental Impact Assessments would be beneficial
  • Technical specialisation such as risk assessment, due diligence or groundwater flow modelling
  • UK Citizen or valid UK work permit
  • Ability and interest to periodically travel and support work at project sites (approximately 25%)
  • Willingness to commit to safely working in a team environment
  • Desirable:
  • An understanding of the planning and environmental regime in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland would be beneficial.
  • Experience of infrastructure projects within Ireland
  • A second language would be beneficial
  • A willingness to take on assignments abroad (including the UK mainland)
