Job Description

Job title: Maintenance and Fitter - Boatyard Please Note: Knowledge of boats, basic maintenance, water safety is essentialLocation: Beccles, Suffolk.Reporting to: Boatyard and paddle craft team leaderResponsible for: seasonal staffHours: 40 hours a week working 5 days(Monday to Sunday in Season 1, Monday to Friday Season 2)Salary: £19,500 and £21 000 per annum plus additional pension and bonus schemePurpose & Responsibilities:Responsible to the team leader to support and maintain an efficient flow of traffic for all areas of the boatyard work, (repairs, maintenance. Hiring and general duties).This role will include some heavy lifting, which is an intrinsic function of the role.The Boatyard is an award-winning holiday and experience destination, looking for someone to step aboard and join the team. This is an integral role, providing the perfect working environment for someone with previous boatyard experience who can demonstratetheir nautical knowledge together with their paddle craft experience and excellent customer service skills.It is a sustainable business and has achieved the prestigious Green Tourism Silver award.During the summer season, this is a customer facing role, so you must be a practical, people person, with a flexible mindset and a can do attitude and you must possess the ability to work alone as well as part of the team.Life is busy at the boatyard, so you must be able to stay calm under pressure. You must have excellent communication skills and be computer literate.This role is full-time and permanent and is split into two halves:Season 1 April to October:the focus will be the tourism and hospitality work.Season 2 November to March:the focus is on Maintenance and Development.Main dutiesSeason 1 Main Duties:

  • Support maintaining an organised and professional workshop and yard.
  • Assisting with day launch boat hire and giving instruction to customers on boat operation.
  • Assist and support oversight of guest arrivals and departures.
  • Undertake guided canoe/kayak tours and SUP lessons as required.
  • Perform general maintenance across the boat yard, including lawn repairs, lawn and dock maintenance.
  • Pump outs and diesel to boat owners.
Season 2 Main Duties
  • Boatyard Maintenance: Pressure washing, antifouling, tar and varnish, fibre glassing (GRP) of boats for maintenance and repair.
  • Boatbuilding including woodwork as appropriate and general boat repair work as necessary.
  • Ability to comprehend and utilise technical service manuals and use them to facilitate repair and maintenance.
  • Washing and polishing hulls, superstructures, top side, bilges and engine rooms.
  • Safe operation of company vehicles, tractors and equipment including trailer handling, slipping and shoring of boats.
  • Pump outs and diesel to boat owners.
  • Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
