Biochemistry Section Manager / Lead Biomedical Scientist 8a If you are an experienced Biomedical Scientist with significant experience at a senior level within an ISO15189 accredited hospital Biochemistry laboratory, this could be the challenge for you.Situated in an area surrounded by wonderful views and a rural feel, the Biochemistry department at the RUH processes a high workload (around 2,500 requests per day, 5 million tests per year) most of which are performed on Roche Cobas 8000 analysers with stand-alone robotics. We moved into a new purpose built laboratory in 2014. The Trust is currently undergoing the process of replacing most of the analysers, which will involve a lot of verification work, but will offer the latest available solutions. The laboratory is UKAS accredited and we have recently had a successful surveillance visit. We operate a 24/7 service and senior staff are expected to support the out of hours service under Agenda for Change terms and conditions (late and weekend shifts as rostered). The Biochemistry Department has a Roche based Automation section (2 x Cobas 8000s, p671 & p672 pre-analytical systems), Sebia electrophoresis equipment (CZE), and POCT involvement across the Trust. The IT systems used at the RUH are Cirdan Ultra LIMS, Sunquest ICE and Cerner Millennium. We are looking for someone who is keen to join the friendly and professional laboratory team as a band 8a manger working synergistically with the other 8a manager within the department. This will involve supporting the Manual Biochemistry section and also the Automation workload and shift requirement. The successful candidate will be expected to have technical knowledge commensurate with this grade but also be able to maintain and progress quality initiatives with a flexible and innovative approach. We are looking for people who work well within a team and have a patient focused attitude. The Trust supports professional and personal development through experiential learning and both internal and external courses. A CPD program is run within the laboratory with speakers from outside and within the department.More information can be found on our website including regarding the creche, parking and accommodation facilities, or for an informal discussion and to arrange a visit (subject to current restrictions), call Dave Fisher (Blood Sciences Manager) on .
