Job Description

Job Title and Grade: Trainee Care Support WorkerLocation/Trust: Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation TrustPay Rates: Days: £8.72 Saturdays/Nights: £12.46 Sunday/Bank Hols: £16.13Looking to kickstart a career with the NHS You can, through our Care Support Worker Development (CSWD) programme.We have a unique opportunity to learn on the job and work towards a care certificate at Warrington & Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. By completing this programme it will help you build and develop the key skills and experience you need to become a Care Support Worker (CSW), all whilst receiving weekly pay, paid annual leave and all the other great benefits NHS Professionals offers our bank members. Once you have successfully completed the programme you will be able to work flexibly at any of our partner Trusts.What the programme involves …During our programme you will learn how to help to maintain a safe care environment in the ward/department, supporting with infection control, providing care, safety and welfare for patients, visitors and other staff.You will work as part of the healthcare team, supporting registered nurses and other healthcare practitioners to meet the daily living needs of the patient from Hygiene to personal and physical comfort.At least 30 hours per week for 6 months (earlies, lates and nights pro rata)Typical duties will involve:

  • Carry out clinical procedures/tasks as required.
  • Undertake and record a range of physiological measurements e.g. temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, blood glucose monitoring
  • Other clinical tasks will be determined by the nature of your work and local policy eg: monitoring the effects of medication; taking ECGs; caring for individuals with catheters or nasogastric tubes, insertion / removal of intravenous cannula, venipuncture
  • Prepare and carry out extended feeding techniques e.g. nasogastric, gastrostomy feeds.
  • Obtain and test samples and other specimens
  • Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
  • Contribute to discharge process
  • Care of wounds
  • Check pain levels and requesting pain relieving medication on patient’s behalf
  • Assist in preparing for clinical procedures and clearing the environment afterwards as appropriate

  • Due to the program’s strict requirement you must be available for at least 30 hours a week, during your training and placement period.
  • You much be over the age of 18 or turning 18 before the planned classroom training week.

  • Attendance of Assessment Day – Week Commencing 12th October
  • Attendance of FREE classroom training – Planned for 23rd to 27th November 2020
