Commercial Assistant- Competitive Salary - Barlborough, ChesterfieldThe RoleAre you a budding quantity surveyor with a HNC or Level 4 construction related apprenticeship, looking to undertake a quantity surveying degree without the outlay Or perhaps youre a recently qualified/ graduated quantity surveyor wanting to embark on anexciting career If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!We are a successful housing development company who place emphasis on quality and sustainability, looking to appoint either a candidate who has just completed their HNC qualification and is wanting to undertake a quantity surveying Degree Apprenticeshipwith us/Sheffield Hallam University, or a recent quantity surveying graduate looking for their first role, with the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in the construction sector.The successful candidate will support the Commercial Team consisting of the Quantity Surveying team and Buying team members to define and achieve the clients project objectives.Key ResponsibilitiesThe key responsibilities of a Commercial Assistant include, but are not limited to:Pre-Contract

• Under supervision, engage with stakeholders to understand project needs
• With senior members of the team, attend initial project/development meetings, understand stakeholders brief
• Undertake measurement / take off to input into feasibility estimate and cost plans
• Assist in cost planning from concept stage to detailed design
• Creation of benchmarking data and keeping up-to-date
• Assist in the procurement process
• Assisting in the production of tender documentation, management and administration of the tender process and subsequent tender analysis

Post Contract

• Attendance at monthly project progress meetings and design/technical team meetings
• Undertake sub-contract valuation assessments
• Assist in monthly and quarterly Financial Reporting
• Assist Senior Quantity Surveyors / Project Managers to prepare update reports
• Carry out general Contract Administration duties
• Assist with invoicing support and tracking payment activities
• Assisting with change control throughout the construction phase

General

• Assist the wider team to ensure project delivery meets programme requirements
• Ensure all invoicing activities are undertaken and track payments including disbursements and other cost to the business
• When requested, assist with obtaining contractor progress and assess for delays / risks etc
• Assist in the production of progress reports for contract progress meetings
• Compile and distribute meeting minutes following progress meetings

• An enhanced apprenticeship pay rate of circa £22,000 per year
• The opportunity to undertake the BSc (Honours) Professional Practice in Quantity Surveying Degree Apprenticeship at Sheffield Hallam University on a day release basis from the workplace each week during term time for 3 years
• Paid time off (1 day per week during term time) to attend University study days
