Job Description

Water is essential to life, so our business is always open.What youll be doing:We are currently recruiting an electrical technician to be based at our Thames Gateway Advanced Water Treatment Works. The role will also support the operation of the water treatment process.We are offering between £34,000 - £45,000 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. A company van is also provided.You will be working at Thames Gateway AWTW the only large-scale desalination plant used for drinking water in the UK, with a capacity of up to 100 million of water a day. A strategic site as part of the Thames Water drought plan. You will be working on theelectrical assets across the site, working alongside the site process team.You will be within multiple disciplined teams that follow a robust maintenance plan as well as getting involved in installation projects, electrical fault finding, project commissioning and emergency breakdown repairs.Specific responsibilities will be:

  • Working on various stages of water treatment and their associated electrical equipment includingthree-phase motors, motor control centres, variable speed drives, power distribution equipment, actuators, and air circuit breakers.
  • Examples of the assets across the site includes pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves, filtration plants, chemical dosing equipment, air compressor, pneumatic plant, and sampling equipment.
  • Investigate process plant failures and carry out repairsas quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents.
  • Carry out scheduled, planned maintenance work on electrical equipment.
  • Provide technical advice to the wider team and contractorsand provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
  • Participate in a 24/7 out-of-hours standby rotawill be required after a suitable period of training and assessment.
  • Additionally, you will be required to undertake health and safety checksand take ownership of your own and your colleagues health and safety by escalating any concerns to your manager and resolving them yourself where possible.
What you should bring to the role
  • Experience in working on large industrial plants and electrical systems.
  • BNC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or City & Guilds level 3 in electrical engineering is essential.
  • Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship. The 18thedition qualification will also be beneficial.
  • HV awareness would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Be physically capable to carry out the duties of the role as you will work in confined spaces and use breathing apparatus with successful completion of the appropriate training.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are critical.
  • A valid driving license is essential.
