Water is essential to life, so our business is always openand this matters even more through a pandemic.Were proud of the positive ways of working weve adopted during the pandemic, creating a more flexible and dynamic environment so all our colleagues can thrive.What youll be doingWe are currently seeking an Instrumentation, Control & Automation (ICA), technician, to be based at our site at Beckton Sewage Treatment Works, and also covering work at our Riverside treatment works in Rainham.As the successful candidate, you will be working in a multi-disciplinary team, alongside a range of operational teams such as systems, mechanical, and electrical technicians.You will be responsible for installing, modifying and commissioning new plant equipment to relevant standards, and to diagnose and repair faults on systems and plants, proactively identifying and reporting follow on work or areas for enhancement, and deliveringcost-effective improvements to assets and systems.Were looking for you to

  • Update assets new for old to improve operational performance
  • Carry out maintenance in line with the asset care plans. This will include ICA fault finding, testing
  • Carry out self-electrical isolations LV (Low Voltage) where applicable
  • Calibrate and verify instruments
  • Fault finding on PLCs, PLC networks, and complex electrical circuits
  • Oversee the maintenance in line with the required regulations in a safe and effective manner
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to new starters and technical trainees as well as existing colleagues
  • Highlight any issues to FPM (Field Performance Manager
  • Comply with the Health and Safety at Work Regulations along with Thames Water Health and Safety Guidelines at all times
To be successful you will have the following skills and experience
  • A good, practical understanding of operational plant and control systems is essential
  • An understanding of Wonderware and Clear SCADA is desirable
  • Knowledge and experience working with relay logic and PLCs (Rockwell & Alan Bradley) which will include management and programming
  • The ideal candidate will have the ability to read and fault find from circuit diagrams as well as have previous experience with inverter drives
  • Examples of some instrumentation you could be working on are flow meters, pressure levels, ultrasonics, and telemetry
  • We are looking for someone with experience in calibration and maintenance of front-line instrumentation
  • Ideally, you will be qualified to HNC level or otherwise will have City and Guilds Part 2 or NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in an electrical subject
  • Knowledge of water treatment processes is desirable
  • Due to the nature of the role, a valid driving licence is essential and as the post will work across a number of sites in your assigned region
  • The work will require physical fitness and the ability to work in confined spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training; as well as the flexibility to work on an out of hours rota when necessary
  • We are looking for a self-motivated team player who is comfortable also with lone working and who possesses excellent time-management skills
