Job Description

Kymab is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing a deep pipeline of novel antibody-based therapies in a broad range of indications. The Company generates its product candidates using its proprietary, integrated platforms collectively called IntelliSelect®. Kymab’s platforms have been designed to maximize the diversity of human antibodies produced in response to immunization with antigens. Selecting from a broad diversity of fully human antibodies allows for the identification of antibodies with optimal drug-like properties.We are looking to recruit a proactive Health, Safety & Environment Adviser ,with a can do’ attitude, to support the Health, Safety & Environment Manager in promoting best practices in operational safety across our organisation, including; delivery of in-house training, ergonomic assessment, inspection and environmental monitoring, to ensure that there is a safe working environment.Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver in-house safety training and create and manage training records for all staff
  • Provide support and advice to scientists in completing safety documentation, including risk assessment (physical, ergonomic, biological, and chemical)
  • Carry out ergonomic assessments including, but not exclusively, DSE assessment
  • Provide services to safety committees including minute taking, action planning and calendar scheduling
  • Maintain a safe working environment through inspection and environmental monitoring
    • Job Requirements:Education and Experience:
  • BSc/MSc in a scientific subject or equivalent experience in a scientific working environment
  • Basic safety qualification such as NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safety or similar. Diploma in a Safety subject would also be highly advantageous.
  • Practical experience of working within R&D laboratories
    • Skills and Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of COSHH, specifically in relation to biosafety, with a view to taking over the role of Biological Safety Officer.
  • Excellent computer skills. Knowledge and experience with the EHS software SHE Assure’ would be particularly advantageous.
  • Design and development of in-house safety training packages
  • Pragmatic approach to the application of safety in the workplace
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Innovative and adaptive.
  • Persuasive and assertive
  • Able to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with all hierarchical levels within company
  • A knowledge of fire safety and environmental legislation would be advantageous
  • Membership of professional bodies such as ISTR, IOSH, IEMA or the Institute of Risk Management is desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge of HTA and Home Office legislation & an understanding of Genetic Modification techniques would also be highly desirable
