Job Description

I am working with a Further Education organisation based in Tameside who are looking for an experienced Management Accountant on a fixed term contract for 6 months.The role is full time on site, to start ASAP and paying £34,520 - £37,510 per annum.The role comes with great benefits including enhanced holidays.Job Purpose

  • Ensure that all assets and liabilities of the College are accounted for on an accurate and timely basis and all statutory and monthly reporting is carried out to deadlines set.
  • Provide timely and accurate information for the senior leadership team as and when requested.
  • To work with the Head of Finance to maintain, develop and improve financial accounting and financial management systems and information.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, financial forecasting and internal budget management.
  • Support the year end processes and audit
  • Lead on the financial support for Externally funded projects
  • Line Manage and develop Financial Colleague(s) and support the Payroll and Pensions process.
Main duties
  • To be responsible for producing highly accurate College Management Accounts including completion of all balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis. Ensuring all control accounts are reconciled and routine balance sheet reconciliations are carriedout. Retaining control and accuracy of the Colleges Assets and Liabilities. Liaising with the Head of Finance for board reports and key risk and opportunities.
  • To prepare, analyse and distribute meaningful monthly budget holder statements, load budgets and re-forecasts into the system and report back to the Head of Finance any known risks or overspends.
  • To meet a portfolio of budget holders periodically to review and provide financial support and training. To provide support or arrange financial training to Colleagues as necessary.
  • To support the Payroll Officer with the monthly Payroll and Pensions processes and provide cover as appropriate.
  • To assist with and take ownership of aspects of the annual budget setting and financial planning process as directed by the Head of Finance.
  • To assist with and take ownership of aspects of the Quarterly re-forecast process as directed by the Head of Finance.
General Duties
  • To perform such duties as required by the Head of Finance and other Senior Colleagues, commensurate with the grade of the post.
  • Promote the College aims, values and standards.
  • Work with all managers and staff to create an ethos of customer service.
  • To co-operate with internal and external auditors.
  • To undertake appropriate individual continuing professional development.
  • To carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with all relevant statutory obligations and current College policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Have responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons that you come into contact with.
  • To participate in the enrolment process as required, recognising that this may require a variation to the normal working week.
Essential Qualifications
  • Literacy and Numeracy to at least Level 2
  • AAT qualified
  • Working towards professional accountancy qualification or QBE
Essential Knowledge
  • Understanding of general key financial regulations and procedures
  • Knowledge of financial accounting and budgeting principles.
  • Have detailed knowledge and understanding of a variety of computerised management information systems
Essential Experience
  • Experience of forecasting , budget monitoring and reporting
  • Experience of the production of period and year end management accounts.
  • Experience in working with budget holders and non financial managers
  • Experience of journal entry, prepayments, accruals, fixed asset register including depreciation calculations.
  • Experience of budgetary preparation and review at department and overall organisation level.
