Job Description

We currently have a Sewage Pumping Station Operator position available for a motivated individual to join our team based in Ashford Sewage Treatment Works on a full time, permanent basis. In return, we offer an excellent range of benefits which include: free car parking at the majority of our sites, company Sharesave Scheme, childcare support, and various health benefits.Our 2020-25 business plan set out our ambitious targets for reducing pollution incidents.While we have significantly improved our performance in some key areas, particularly in reducing the most serious pollutions, we know we have more to do to tackle minor, less serious pollutions.One of the key areas that we want to improve is around pollution incidents that happen on the network of sewers that move wastewater from customers’ homes to our treatment works. As our network is spread over a large and often rural area, it can be a challenge to identify and respond quickly enough to potential pollution.To help us improve, we have established a dedicated task force to focus on pollutions and employed more operators to carry out sewer cleansing and pumping station inspections and maintenance. When pollutions happen, as well as responding quickly to minimise any impact on the environment, we are looking very carefully at what caused them and what we can do to prevent them happening again.As our Sewage Pumping Station Operator, youwill carry out reactive and planned work as scheduled to deliver the day to day operation and maintenance of the Sewage Pumping Stations. You will provide services of the required quality and quantity, in a sustainable manner that meets the required internal and external customer service standards, whilst protecting the environment.Responsibilities as our Sewage Pumping Station Operator will include: - Carrying out on site monitoring to ensure effective site operation and that compliance requirements are maintained- Responding effectively to site conditions and monitoring information that ensure compliance is maintained and the environment is protected- Storing and Handling chemicals under COSHH, QMS Procedures and relevant Health and Safety standards- Carrying out first line maintenance on instruments & mechanical equipment- Carrying out calibration of equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability- Using the iSCADA control system, PCs and other computer hardware and software to carry out the role effectively- Carrying out grass-cutting, weed-killing and general maintenance to maintain site conditions under relevant procedures- Providing accurate and timely feedback of activities completed- Adhering to schedules, business rules and proceduresWhat we are looking for in our ideal Sewage Pumping Station Operator:- 5 GCSEs or equivalent in Maths, English and a Science subject- An NVQ 2 qualification in Waste Water operations (desirable)- Experience of working in a team and an understanding of the importance of teamwork- Previous experience of operating and maintaining complex processes and working with modern technology- Proven experience of working with computers and software packages- Can take ownership of work and adopts continuous improvement philosophy- Ability to work to a high standard, with a focus on the quality of work carried out to enable compliance with our regulated consents- A flexible approach to working hours which includes working evenings and weekends as part of the flexible working pattern- A full UK Driving License- Driving classifications BE & C1 (desirable)Closing date: 24th September 2020If you are looking for a new challenge, please click apply now to be considered as our Sewage Pumping Station Operator – we look forward to receiving your application.
