Job Description

Connex Community Support helps people with their care, emotional and practical support needs so that they retain their independence and feel less isolated. As Service Manager you will oversee the work we provide in the Derbyshire Dales, based around theaward-winning Readycall Macmillan service which provides practical and emotional support to people affected by cancer, alongside a Home from Hospital service and digital inclusion project - all of which are delivered through the support of volunteers, ensuringpeople who need our support can live enriched, independent lives.Working hours 28 per weekSalary £30,095 pro rata, £22,775 actualYou must have experience of both managing service operations and staff, have excellent communication skills and the ability to organise a varied workload. Most of the work time will be spent with the teams in our Ashbourne and Bakewell offices but thereis also flexibility for some remote working.Operational delivery and People management

  1. Ensure that Readycall Macmillan and related services within Connex Community Support operate safely, efficiently and meet their funding or contractual requirements.
  2. Manage the Services team, ensuring staff are adequately trained, supported and have regular supervision meetings in addition to annual appraisals.
  3. Manage the recruitment and training of new staff as and when needed.
  4. Oversee the recruitment, training, supervision and support of volunteers involved in the delivery of these services.
  5. Ensure that services are compliant with relevant legislation and Connex Community Supports internal policies and procedures.
  6. Take responsibility for investigating any safeguarding concerns, recording appropriately and raising with the Safeguarding Lead if necessary.
  7. Coordinate staff cover for the relevant services and where necessary, provide cover for other staff in case of planned and unplanned absences.
Service Development and Quality
  1. Ensure services delivered respond to the individual needs of service users as identified through needs assessments and that they are of high quality, using feedback mechanisms that also include volunteers and other stakeholders.
  2. Achieve appropriate accreditation that endorses the quality of services provided
  3. Work collaboratively with your line manager, other Connex staff, volunteers and external agencies to identify development opportunities for existing and new services, also assisting with the preparation of funding applications.
  4. Oversee ongoing training and professional development for staff and volunteers: ensuring that both are offered appropriate opportunities.
  5. Participate in training, including Macmillan Professional and ongoing professional development as identified and agreed.
  6. Respond to and investigate any complaints received in accordance with Connex Community Supports Complaints Policy.
Service Promotion
  1. Ensure the promotion of services and their volunteering opportunities through all possible delivery channels, also instigating and overseeing the development of new materials.
  2. Proactively network with relevant professionals and agencies to raise awareness of Connex Community Support services and acquiring knowledge about related services in the local area to signpost service users.
  3. Assist with fundraising activities to help raise the public profile of the services as well as Connex Community Support as a whole.
Reporting & Financial Management
  1. Ensure the collation of all relevant data to demonstrate the impact of services and provide required reports on service performance and outcomes.
  2. Ensure that records of income and expenditure are kept in accordance with our auditing requirements.
  3. Assist in the preparation of service budgets and ensure that financial parameters set within them are met.
Other Responsibilities
  1. Help to maintain our office facilities, working with other Connex Community staff to ensure that equipment and facilities are compliant with Health & Safety Legislation and fit for purpose.
  2. Comply with all of Connex Community Supports policies and any other statutory requirements.
  3. Undertake any other appropriate duties as may be required
Person SpecificationEssential
  • Maths & English GCSEs (or equivalent)
  • Operational service management experience
  • Staff /volunteer management experience
  • Ability to organise and prioritise your workload and resources
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent monitoring and reporting skills
  • Ability to present information to an audience
  • Ability to use Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Excel), CRMs or similar IT systems along with virtual meeting applications e.g. Zoom/ Microsoft Teams
  • Knowledge and understanding of risk management and adult safeguarding processes
  • Understanding and commitment to principles of confidentiality and GDPR legislation
  • Knowledge of organisations and services available for older and/or vulnerable persons
  • Understanding and commitment to principle of equal opportunities
Other:You will need to hold a current satisfactory enhanced disclosure certificate, issued by the Disclosure & Barring Service. We will apply for this on your behalf prior to any confirmation of future employment.You also need access to a suitable form of transport in order to attend two different office bases, in addition to networking events across the Derbyshire Dales and occasional meetings at our main office in Buxton. If you plan on driving a vehicle for this,a current clean driving licence is required.
