Due to the high demands of the energy transition they have an excellent pipeline of work for the foreseeable future providingthe right candidates the opportunity to join a very stable growing business and build their career over the next 10 years and beyond.The roleWe are looking for a Lead Civil Design Engineer to liaise closely with the Design Delivery Manager - Substations, other Senior Design Engineers and internal/external customers ensuring project, programme and budgetary controls at all times. The candidate willlead and co-ordinate design projects and oversee the completion of these projects while providing technical support to Design Engineers, Project Engineers, Site Engineers, and clients. Key responsibilities;* Manage day to day civil substation design activities, liaising closely with the Design Delivery Manager.* Act not only as project lead but also in the capacity of senior design resource in support of other projects by delivering high quality design outputs when required.* Maintain up-to-date working knowledge of National Grid, SSEN, SPEN, BS, ENA and other relevant industry standards. * Develop specific design processes, policy and training manuals.* Liaise regularly with other Engineers and Technicians to maximise productivity.* Review, develop, encourage and train engineering staff.* To assist in the provision of technical advice and support to personnel and clients.* Review resource levels regularly, reporting deficiencies and possible solutions to the Design Delivery Manager.* Assist the development of external design resources relevant to the role and utilise wherever required.* Maintain effective communication and undertake any necessary correspondence with both internal and external clients.* Attend and contribute to regular project briefings, team meetings and design review meetings with engineers and/or technicians where necessary.* Continually assess and review contract programme within design and innovation teams.* Liaise with clients to provide input and scope for new standards/codes of practice.* Work within established Company policies and procedures while encouraging achievement and continuous improvement.* Demonstrate safety, integrity and commitment at all times.* Maintain excellent levels of communication.* Carry out any other duties as and when necessary to meet the varying demands of the business.The candidateWe are looking for an ambitious and dynamic individual with excellent knowledge and understanding of all key client and industry specifications.* B.Eng or BSc in Civil or Structural Engineering, with honours, or HND plus relevant design experience in the Transmission & Distribution substation sector.* Holds or actively working towards professional chartered status.* Considerable experience on civil substation design with extensive knowledge of National Grid specifications, British Standards, and other UK TNO and DNO design standards.* Detailed knowledge of substation civils and structural design.* Ability to undertake Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) as defined by National Grids Supplier Requirements for Civils Substation or equivalent role for other clients; or with sufficient skills, knowledge, experience and training to undertake theCDAE role.* Ability to support the wider business in the preparation of project proposals* Understands the need to introduce best practice and a continuous improvement culture.Why joinThis is a great opportunity for an individual to work on major National Grid projects with an excellent work life balance and the opportunity to work from home, anywhere in the UK.* 26 days annual leave plus 8 days bank holiday* 35 hour working week + overtime* Annual bonus* Pension scheme* Life Assurance* Private health care * Company car scheme with some great options* Fully remote or hybrid working available from UK locationsIf you are interested to learn more, contact Dean Forster at Tempest Jones, or apply now by submitting your CV.
