Job Description

Five Education is recruiting for an Alveston primary school and looking for a Teaching Assistant to work with Key Stage 1 aged children. The students you will be working with have Social and Emotional Needs (SEMH) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) andwill be behind their literacy and numeracy skills for their age. The children will also have an Educational Health and Care Plan tailored to each particular individual.This role is due to start in January 2022 an will be ongoing at least until July 2022.We are looking for candidates who have experience supporting young people and/or children with Special Educational Needs. The chosen candidate will be fully supported by the experienced staff at the school.Responsibilities and duties:

Using de-escalation techniques to ensure students are calm and focused on task
Aiding students to develop socially, making friends etc. This includes confidence-building strategies
Helping students to learn self-regulation techniques, though a lot of guidance and support will be required
Working in small groups and 1:1 occasionally
Helping students with certain tasks as they may have difficulties with motor skills both fine and gross
A proactive approach to assisting and potentially adapting work for the student
Be flexible and willing to work with the student outside the classroom
Managing challenging behaviour in line with school guidelines
Accompanying the students to additional therapy classes such as music and art
Communicating with other staff to ensure a consistent and constructive approach
Ensuring the welfare of the student is paramount

Essential criteria:

A flexible and resourceful approach
You will be able to demonstrate positive reinforcement
At least 12 months of experience supporting students
Have a right to work in the UK (A valid visa)
Two recent child/vulnerable adults references and relevant DBS/ Police checks
Access to bicycle, car or near main bus routes.
Able to work 8.30 am -3.30 pm, 5 days per week term time only
