Job DescriptionElectrical Systems Engineer Derby Full timeWhy Rolls-RoyceAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electrical Systems Engineer to join our growing team, working on a technology development programme for a more-electric power and propulsion platform in advance of a New Product Introduction programme. Thisis an ideal opportunity to work on multiple stages of the technology development process and product lifecycle.Rolls-Royce Electrical (RRE) is a separate operating business unit within Rolls-Royce Holdings plc, with a global footprint focussing on developing complete electric propulsion systems for electric vertical take-off and landing (veto) and commuter aircraft,as well as supporting our Civil Aerospace, Defence, and Power Systems business units.   • Carry out trade studies at the platform level to derive electrical system requirements, create and down-select system architectures and specify design requirements to be placed on electrical subsystems.
  • Produce clear, comprehensive system specifications and performance requirements with input as necessary from mechanical, electrical, control system and thermal teams.
  • Engage with customers and partners to understand their needs, and with suppliers to support adoption of latest technology and drive future technology requirements.
  • Define electrical system validation and verification strategies.

  • Minimum of a bachelors degree in Engineering or equivalent, with an electrical bias preferred.
  • An understanding of the influence of electrical system design decisions on other non-electrical systems and vice-versa, and the collective impact on the product.
  • Experience of systems engineering tools and methods, for example Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Design Failure Modes Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • The ability to engage constructively with colleagues up and down the organisation to influence key design decisions.
  • Experience of each stage of the Aircraft electrical power system design and development lifecycle, from research and development, through concept design to certification and entry into service preferred.
