Ackworth School, a co-educational boarding and day school, was founded in 1779 by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). It maintains its ethos and traditions, and is still governed by the Society, although only a small number of pupils and staff are from the Quaker tradition. The school is academically non-selective and provides an excellent range of facilities and extra-curricular opportunities. The school is a member of both HMC and the Society of Heads. We have a higher than average percentage of children with SEND and we are incredibly proud of the inclusive nature of our school. This is, in some part, down to our Quaker ethos. The School also has a specialist Autism Resource that we are equally as proud of and this is staffed separately by a group of extremely skilled and dedicated staff. Ackworth School is seeking to appoint a Head of Learning Support/SENCO. The ideal candidate must be able to liaise effectively with parents and with colleagues, showing tact and sensitivity. He/she should be an effective and experienced teacher of SEND pupils, with specific experience in teaching pupils with dyslexia. He/she should be able to assist the Senior Management Team accordingly. The person appointed should be able to demonstrate that they hold the respect and confidence of pupils and their parents. The Head of Learning Support/SENCO should have an understanding and concern for SEND requirements, and will develop a vision for the provision and future development of SEND provision at Ackworth. It is important that they can demonstrate resilience to champion inclusion at all levels of the school and to manage the challenges that arise in a pragmatic and measured way.Ackworth School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants should also be in sympathy with the Schools Quaker ethos. The successful applicant will be expected to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including the completion of an enhanced DBS / ISA disclosure and reference checks with former employers.CLOSING DATE: Wednesday 2nd September 2020Interviews will be held towards the end of SeptemberSalary range is MPS/UPS plus a responsibility allowance.Further details can be obtained from the School website. The School insists on e-mail applications. To apply please fully complete the Schools application form and email for the attention of Joanne Colley, HR Manager. Please attach a cover letter of no more than one side of A4.
