Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Radiopharmacy/Radiochemistry Technician to join an existing multidisciplinary team including a Radiochemist, Radiopharmacist, Radiopharmacy Technicians and Researchers in the John Mallard Scottish PET Centre, based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The post holder will be contributing towards the technical aspects of the delivery of a Positron Emitting Radiopharmaceutical (PET) Production Service produced under aseptic conditions by manipulating a cyclotron produced radionuclide within chemistry synthesis modules to produce sterile radio-pharmaceuticals. PET is a medical imaging technique, which has great potential for the study of cancer and heart disease along with a range of other clinical applications. It is housed in a purpose built facility within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and the radiochemistry facility has been expanded to include a GMP cleanroom facility and as such is required to conform to the Rules and Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Distributors (GMP 2017). It must also operate within the restrictions of UK Radiological Legislation. The department is currently installing a new PETrace 800 cyclotron, which, along with new hot-cells that are being installed within the GMP production facility, will allow the preparation of gallium-68 radiopharmaceuticals.Applicants are required to be a registered Pharmacy Technician OR possess a professional qualification to HND or graduate level (preferably in Chemistry or a Life Science or Pharmaceutical Sciences) or in depth relevant experience or theoretical study relating to this field and to include Pharmaceutical Analysis, working to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). The Post Holder would preferably have the Postgraduate Certificate in Radiopharmacy.
