Job Description

Job PurposeTo assist the Head of Finance in the overall provision of finance support (Business Partnering) to include:

  • Develop a Strategic Partnering Finance & Confirmations/Masterdata Team
  • Ensuring that the basics are done well
  • Developing an excellent understanding of the Transport Function E2E
  • Drive and develop E2E ex-factory profitability and business partner ex-factory head of transport
  • Control of sales, invoicing, credits and distribution contracts
  • Challenge & bring fresh perspective, objectivity & rigour, whilst also seeing the bigger picture & improvement into the decision making.
  • Be a sparring partner for the central transport team, a valued business adviser who brings a fresh perspective
  • Deliver outstanding service to achieve our ST & LT goals.
  • Key Activities
  • Lead, coach & develop direct reports into a business advocates
  • Working closely with Site Management (Kiveton / NH) to enhance the overall provision of finance data to enable timely and appropriate actions / decisions to be implemented
  • Review and analyse weekly accounts & performance - comparison to prior periods, budget and forecast, specifically identify key trends/issues for corrective action.
  • Discuss / investigate & provide insight into transport variances e.g. direct labour, vehicles, fuels, repairs etc
  • Reviewing & controlling of transport network changes – additional routes, VORs, spare vans etc
  • Reviewing & controlling of backhaul income and associated EBIT
  • Embed full stage & gate process for DTS – financial costings on new business opportunities including backhaul
  • Review and control associated sales, invoicing & credits
  • Detailed customer profitability analysis done periodically in line with budget/forecast timelines
  • Work closely with the Central Finance Team – to eliminate difference between weekly & monthly accounts.
  • Drive transport Efficiency agenda and identify corrective actions as required supported by financial models
  • Take the lead for Capital budgeting, forecasting & reporting E2E. Play a pivotal role in capital request writing, reviewing & controlling of spend inline with budget & forecasts.
  • Reviewing & controlling of increased accuracy of KPIs (Recharges, MPG, Shift allocations, Kiveton/NH Vans) used to ensure that they accurately reflect reality.
  • Meet all internal & group deadlines for reporting
  • Ad hoc work / projects are required

  • Ideally fully Qualified
  • A background in finance at a Logistics company or similarly complex transport environment would be advantageous
  • Excellent analytical skills to simplify complex problems to understand insights
  • Excellent people management skills with key coaching and influencing skills
  • Able to analyse, review and appraise weekly depot/radial financial reports – to enable business decisions to be made
  • Able to provide proactive support / analysis of Site performance to key stakeholders
