My old man says Children are all snotty little herberts! He would not get this job as Registered Manager of a child and adolescent residential home. You, on the other hand, recognise that kids dont all get a good start in life. Youve also decided that a career in residential childrens care is definitely for you. You have experience in the field already and understand what a difference quality clinicalsupport has to the well-being of youngsters. Its less likely that you have seen what a difference in-house specialist clinical psychologists, psychiatrists and therapists can make though; but thats because not all providers of residential child care are as good as my client. Also, you know that the environment youngsters call home is important too and as a result, it would appeal to you if your workplace was a well-appointed modern homely environment with facilities such as sensory rooms, large gardens and/or in popular suburbanlocations with amenities nearby a proactive manager will make use of therapeutically, like nature reserves, historical monuments and leisure facilities, which remove a lot of risk, simply by design and location. On the subject of risk, well firstly you will receive level 5 safeguarding training if you havent already got it. Then there is the no-restraint policy. My client doesnt work with violent kids; and under no circumstances would my dads approach (a cliparound the ear) be right, but you know that. These guys do in-depth assessments, supported by Consultant Psychiatrist input to determine a childs fit with fellow residents. They also aim to provide care to those who are at a certain stage in their recovery. As for you: Well, firstly you will understand risk and be able to put together a decent risk assessment. If you couldnt do that, then how could you expect others to do soThe catch: Well, work is work we cant deny it, but if you know a bit about emotional regulation and boundary management and might be able to describe transference, then you probably know how to make this type of workplace a fun one.If not, well you can rely on a senior management team who gives you a best practice amount of reflective space and 1-1 time each month to get you there.Career progression Look no further than your own line manager and counterparts who will tell you all about their progression at interview. You will be impressed and the company are soon going to open their 6th, 7th and 8th homes, all in this area.Whats more, experienced Managers could even find this role being enhanced from the outset with additionalresponsibility and reward, if the interview goes well! What about training How many companies are prepared to advertise that they will support you to go to university and obtain a relevant degreeAnd the package Well, lets just say it is a leading package with good pay and fabulous benefits including a good pension, that is pretty much unrivalled amongst its competitors. So, if you have a Level 4/5 or equivalent in Health and Social Care (preferably but not essentially in Children and Young People), some leadership skills and a good attitude, then get in touch and dont delay.Theres much more to tell you about this very exciting opportunity!
