An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, proactive Nurse Specialist to make a significant difference to the Health outcomes of adults with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and Parkinsonism.This is a full time, band 7 post within the Department of Neurology at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. It has been created following expansion of our Neurology team to cover a wide geographical area. You will be expected to integrate into our existing team and work flexibly across sites to meet the needs of the service.The Department of Neurology views its staff as its most important asset. As such, you will be supported with induction, training and advanced educational opportunities. We will use the Parkinson’s Disease Nurse Specialist Association (PDNSA) Royal College of Nursing and Parkinson’s Disease Society core competencies to help you to develop a clear career pathway towards expert practice.The post holder will play a key role in the delivery of neurological services throughout the Trust. You will be expected to exercise a high degree of professional autonomy and to make critical judgements using specialist knowledge; you will provide the highest standard of holistic patient care for patients with PD. You will be responsible for the organisation and management of your own workload and commitments to facilitate clinics in the Shropshire, Telford and Powys areas adapting and prioritising as necessary.Applicants should be highly motivated, dynamic and will play a pivotal role in PD and neurology nursing service development, in line with national guidance. The successful candidate will work with the Clinical Nurse specialists in PD, Neurology Consultants and the wider multi-disciplinary team for the benefit of people with PD.The post will require you to run and maintain nurse-led clinics independently, including medicines management, Apo- morphine and other treatment options. You will have responsibility for assessing patients and subsequently devising, implementing and assessing an individual’s comprehensive PD care plan.Whilst experience of this role is desirable, full training, support and development will be provided to the appropriate candidate who can demonstrate the motivation, interest and drive to deliver a high level of specialist intervention and care to patients with PD throughout the Trust. You will be expected to exercise a high degree of professional autonomy and to make critical judgements using specialist knowledge: you will provide the highest standard of holistic patient care for patients with PD across the whole disease progression.
