Job Description

GiBe Finance are delighted to be recruiting a slightly niche role with a national brand in Woking, managing the business rates for their sites across the UK.Reporting to the Financial Controller, key skillsets are analytical, communication & problem solving (with any business rates knowledge a bonus!) You will manage a small team and be the key point of contact for all business rates queries across the business.The business is currently working from home and post-lockdown arrangements are expected to be 3 days in the office, 2 days from home.The RoleKey contact in the business for rates

  • Support Financial Controller and Managing Director with driving the rates strategy including lobbying
  • Liaise with business on Valuation Office (VOA) correspondence affecting the business e.g. CPO (compulsory purchase orders)
  • Support tender process from a rates perspective
  • Increase knowledge of rates across the business
  • Rates payment processing and future structure
  • Manage end to end rates processing with line management of administrator
  • Collaboration with Rates Administrator and external advisor to gain a good understanding of rates
  • Support various workstreams - reliefs, appeals
  • Review and recommend future structure for rates processing including remaining in house on a new system or outsourcing
  • Manage implementation of new solution selected above - either, transition off Oasis onto a new system, transition to outsource provider or another option (whichever applicable)
  • Manage Appeals process
  • Manage appeals process selecting sites for external agent (Jones Lang Lasalle) to appeal
  • Manage rates refunds for site takedowns
  • Manage relationship with VOA and other government agencies
  • Key contact for the business with the VOA and billing authorities answering any billing or other queries
  • Develop relationship with senior officials in VOA
  • Manage use of external advisors
  • Build a relationship and manage the effective use of external advisors when required to support appeals process and any strategic initiatives
  • Reporting
  • Scenario modelling and analysis
  • Monthly dashboard reporting on rates savings and KPIs
  • Prepare annual VORC returns for England and Scotland
  • Your Profile
  • Strong analytical skillset - lots of Excel data manipulation
  • Confident communicator (written and verbally) - managing many relationships, internally and externally
  • Proactive problem solver - there will be frequent and differing queries to deal with on a daily basis
  • Any previous experience with business rates will be advantageous, although not essential
