How to decide what the right job is forYou have to go against the grain sometimes, get a feel for what is right for you. Your peers will tell you that you need a job that lets you work from home or that you need to work for that FTSE listed business in order to be taken seriously. Some may tellyou that deviating away from the corporate world will negatively impact your CV. These could all be true. What could be even truer though is, going to the office makes you happy because you get to socialise again, working for a start up will give you the motivationto help it succeed, moving away from corporate, will get rid of the office politics you despise so much.You need to decide what will make you happy in your job for the next 2/3/4/5 years.So is this job the right one for meCould be. Theyre a growing manufacturing business with circa 50 staff. Youll be part of the senior leadership team, working in the same office, on the opposite desk to the owner of the company. Youll have full control and responsibility of the P&L. Theyneed someone who can make drastic efficiency and improvements to their dated process, something that has been suggested by the business owner. Youll also need to navigate your way around their ERP system, so if you have manufacturing ERP knowledge with systemslike Epicor, M1 or Kerridge that would help. In answer to your question though, Im not sure if its the right one for you...I dont know what youre looking for but can tell you more about what these guys are like to work with.Go on then, whats the cultureWell, youll be working from the office in Walsall Monday to Friday, alongside colleagues who like to push the envelope when it comes to sense of humour. Youll be laughing for most of the day and giving as good as you get, whilst also being a productivemember of the team. These guys play hard but work even harder. Thats why they need someone who can switch off from the distractions around them and crack on. If youre easily distracted, then it probably isnt for you. If youre easily offended, again, itprobably isnt for you. Its not a fancy office with all the latest tech, sleep pods and Apple Macs on every desk. Its a decent office above an engineering site. Were not trying to sell you on the building though, what we are talking about, is working fora business where youll make life long friends and progress very quickly.What are they after thenIdeally, a knowledgable Finance Manager from a manufacturing background. Not bothered if youre qualified or qualified by experience. You just need to know what youre doing. You need to be able to put together some really good management accounts, producesome knockout budgets and forecasts, offer up insightful data to support strategic decision making and work with the MD to make sure that profits are going up.
