Job Description

Quality Engineer - PackagingLocation: WiganSalary: DOECompany: A leading packaging manufacturer.Role: Working with the Site Quality Manager and Production teams - the Quality Engineer will find the cause of Quality Defects and develop the production and maintenance processes to eliminate re-occurrence.The role will require the application of improvement techniques, deep understanding of machine standards and principles of operation; engaging operational personnel to take full responsibility of products.

  • Audit Production compliance with QC Procedures and identify improvements/gap plans.
  • Meticulously document manufacturing problems and work with production and engineering to find a solution and preventative processes.
  • Coach and develop problem solving techniques within production teams to create a zero-defect culture and results.
  • Improvement plans to drive the removal of positive release through QA process development to complement QC processes
  • Own all Customer Complaint Investigations through to resolution - Manage the collection and communication of Customer Complaint Information
  • Drivea swift response to Customer Complaints and through appropriate analytical tools create preventative methodology.
  • Communicate all quality investigations.
  • Visit customers and suppliers as required to investigate Complaint issues.
  • Manage Calibration process and associated development processes.
  • Audit the use and skills of Operators when performing Quality measurements.
  • Agree with Quality Manager, Projects to improve the Quality-related KPI’s.
  • Agree timelines and targets for all KPI improvements.
  • Agree key contacts within customer and Production to enable data collection and access to systems and procedures.
  • Suggest product modifications to improve line efficiency
  • Identify product Innovation solutions that improve line efficiency or product quality
  • Agree reporting mechanism against Process, Product and Quality improvement KPI’s
  • Regularly Present Production Quality KPI performance at selected meetings.
    • Requirements:
  • Proven quality experience within a packaging manufacturer / supplier
  • Strong printing background, ideally with an understanding of Flexo and/or Gravure
  • Knowledge of cardboard packaging is highly desirable (corrugated)
  • Some form of technical knowledge and ability to read technical drawings, charts and graphs
  • Experience working in a fast-paced production environment with high-speed machinery
  • Continuous Improvement Process experience
  • Process measurement/Calibration experience
  • Understanding of BRC and ISO quality systems
  • Ability to prioritise and work both independently and within a team
