Job Description

Our Client is a well-established Housing Association specialising in providing properties for tenants that need additional support to live independently. Working in partnership with local authorities and care providers, our Client supports tenants with a wide range of mostly learning disabilities.Focused in the North West of the UK the 25 strong team is based in Wigan.We are looking to recruit a hardworking and proactive Multi-skilled Operative to join the growing repairs team. Our Client is an organisation that cares about its employees, their health and wellbeing and is committed to providing them with opportunities for personal development.Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Have the ability to undertake a wide range of day-to-day repairs to properties incl: minor electrical (e.g. replacing sockets), basic plumbing, joinery, replacing locks or doors, patch plastering, tiling, painting, basic flooring, adjusting user adjustable’ services/appliances
  • Reporting back repairs required that are of a larger nature or require specialist trades, e.g. Electrician, Gas Safe registered contractors and work at height
  • Provide technical support and advice to the Repairs Team including advice around work required, co-ordinating small project work which requires other contractors and scrutinising the invoices of external contractors
  • Act as the eyes and ears’ identifying potential hazards / items requiring repair before they deteriorate further
  • Work with our tenants and alongside support providers, colleagues, and other organisations to get the very best for our tenants
  • Support the repairs team with our out of hours calls/response to emergency repairs
  • Have good Health & Safety awareness (for yourself and others)
  • Be able to plan and undertake work at times / in ways that are best suited to the tenant, e.g. when they are not in the property
  • Participate and be pro-active in identifying learning opportunities that will contribute to your own personal development

  • Abilities, Skills & Experience
  • Trade equivalent vocational qualification or time served experience - plumbing, electrical or joinery preferred
  • 5 GSCE’s or equivalent incl. Maths & English preferred
  • Competent IT Skills with basic use of Office and Email
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a tradesperson, repair worker or demonstrable transferrable skills
  • Experience of working with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience of working with people who can be challenging due to their disabilities is desirable
  • Experience of working in a busy hands-on / can-do environment
  • Outstanding communication skills across a broad spectrum of tenants, service users, support providers, colleagues, and external stakeholders
  • Robust, pragmatic & with a calm attitude to occasionally busy & difficult situations
  • Self-Starting & Pro-Active attitude
  • Interested in helping tenants to live in a home where they feel safe and in an environment that enables them to achieve their personal goals and ambitions.

  • £35,000 per annum (DOE)

  • Flexible Working Arrangements - 40 hours p.w. with rotational (currently every 4 weeks) emergency on call duties within the team (weekdays 15:45pm - 8:30am, weekends 24/7)
