Job Description

Commercial Manager Renewables, Wood & Waste Management Sector Widnes £55,000 - £60,000 We are working with a leading player in the sustainable energy sector is currently searching for a dynamic and experienced Commercial Manager. The role involves overseeing the strategic procurement of unprocessed and processed waste wood, as well as woodfuel,with a focus on building and maintaining supplier relationships, optimizing commercial opportunities, and ensuring efficient sourcing of materials to support business plans.Benefits:-

The Candidate;
  • Previous experience as a commercial manager or sales manager
  • Previous experience of leading and managing large purchasing & sales teams
  • Previous experience in the renewables industry is highly desirable
  • Experience in the wood or waste management sector is desirable
  • Excellent communication, planning, and people management skills.
  • Ability to influence and demonstrate financial acumen.
  • Experience in a fast-moving purchasing/trading environment.
  • Project management expertise and comfort with financial management reporting.
  • Results-driven with a focus on delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Desire to challenge the status quo and improve processes.
Duties and Responsibilities;Supplier Relationship:
  • Develop and nurture relationships with unprocessed, processed waste wood, and woodfuel suppliers based on respect and integrity.
  • Support and manage all supplier relationships with confidence and professionalism.
  • Establish excellent working relationships with strategic fuel suppliers at all levels.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of a clear strategy for identifying and managing supply risk.
  • Cultivate in-depth knowledge of the market, suppliers, and competitors to maximize profitability.
Sourcing Materials:
  • Secure unprocessed and processed waste wood at required commercials and quality with appropriate contractual arrangements.
  • Develop regional sourcing strategies in collaboration with the Procurement and Woodfuel teams.
Commercial Optimization:
  • Identify, assess, and execute opportunities to optimize gate fees, processed wood costs, and woodfuel margins.
  • Apply a commercial mindset to the day-to-day operation and delivery of key contracts.
  • Ensure prompt billing and cash collection.
Team Management and Development:
  • Manage, support, and develop the Procurement and Woodfuel team for optimal performance.
  • Establish systems to enable the teams to achieve strategic and tactical objectives.
  • Provide clear day-to-day and strategic direction, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Interaction with Stakeholders:
  • Ensure internal and external stakeholders perform as required for optimum fulfillment.
  • Develop excellent working relationships with all internal stakeholders to support business performance.
Business Development:
  • Implement a clear strategy to drive financial value from all supplier relationships.
  • Optimize the CRM system to identify and close market opportunities.
Reporting:
  • Provide performance updates to the Senior Leadership Team and the Head of Procurement.
  • Deliver performance reports to the wider SLT group as required.
