Job Description

Location: Office based role in WeybridgeThe main function is to manage the VAT, Excise Duty and all other Indirect Tax responsibilities for the Prax Group in terms of fiscal lobbying, accounting control, compliance and reporting requirements. The annual VAT payments are approximately £1.3bn andthe annual duty payments are approximately £2.4bn. Although the majority of the Group’s activities are within the UK, there are also operations in Europe, America and Singapore.Responsibilities

  • Be a focal point for HM Revenue & Customs, this includes all VAT and Duty issues and includes all other indirect taxes such as Climate Change Levy, Registered Dealers in Controlled Oils (RDCO), and contact with the Renewable Fuels Agency (for RTFO). Thiswill include negotiation and lobbying where appropriate.
  • Ensure all Excise and Duty approvals are kept up to date and renewed accordingly.
  • Review and document the position of UK subsidiaries in relation to the "option to tax" on supplies of land.
  • Actively seek to reduce the amount of VAT payable on retail sales, within the confines of the UK law, and optimise cashflow.
  • Liaise with and manage the working relationship with HM Revenue & Customs during routine audits and ad hoc enquiries.
  • Liaise with and manage the working relationship with internal and external auditors.
  • Liaise closely with all Prax Group companies on VAT, Excise Duty and other Indirect Tax issues and with the governmental Customs departments in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Develop a working knowledge of SAP VAT and Duty (and escalate issues to the SAP development teams when appropriate).
Context and Environment
  • Ensuring strict compliance with the UK and overseas statutory rules and other controls (e.g. accounting polices) is followed.
  • The responsibility for management of VAT, Duty and Indirect taxes entails continued and frequent interaction and communication with all areas of Prax Group..
  • Reviewing and developing methods of working and reporting systems in order to maximise efficiency and reduce the VAT/Duty liabilities where possible within the legislative framework.
Accountabilities

  • Local accounting team and Head office (accounting, compliance and internal reporting requirements)
  • Business Directors (optimisation of processes and costs)
Qualifications / Experience Required
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent standard.
  • Good working knowledge of the Indirect Taxes applicable to the Oil Industry in the UK and EU as a minimum.
  • The position requires a detailed technical appreciation of Indirect Tax Law to the level where negotiation can take place with Government authorities at a senior level.
