Job Description

Profile Criteria:

  1. Fully-Qualified accountant (ideally CIMA but would be open to ACA or ACCA qualified accountants) with ideally 2-5 years of post-qualification experience
  2. Industry experience preferably from the financial services sector (but can be open to profiles outside of financial services) with current (or previous) experience working in a small or medium sized business / Finance function
  3. Well-rounded finance and accounting experience covering a variety of tasks across the Finance function, including the preparation of management accounts, budgets, forecasts, building of financial models, building of plans, management of junior members ofstaff, etc.
  4. Ability to build financial models themselves (i.e., cash flow, P&L, Balance Sheet, income, cost, acquisition, etc.)
  5. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  6. Confident / advanced level user of Excel
Summary:Reporting to the Finance Director, this role leads the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department, ensuring robust financial controls are in place and adhered to by the team and wider business. The role also has a strong commercial finance / financebusiness partnering / FP&A element to it (hence the preference to get a CIMA qualified accountant, although ACA or ACCA qualified candidates will also be considered), as the position willworkclosely and collaboratively with a range of stakeholders acrossthe business, includng front office, Executive and Management Boards, as well as the external auditors, collaborating closely to manage and execute key financial priorities. The role is the primary liaison between the finance team and the front office andsenior / executive managementresponsible for their regular and ad-hoc financial reporting and analytical requirements.Note:The firm also engages with an external accounting practice that helps with the production of statutory, tax and regulatory returns, allowing this individual to focus on management accounting and reporting and commercial / analyticaland finance business partnering tasks.Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring the team adhere to the accounting cycle and associated deadlines, leading on the production of Management Accounts
  • Providing Management and Executive Boards with accurate and comprehensive financial information to guide decision making
  • Leading on the production of annual budgets, providing control against actual and variance reports on a regular basis, as agreed with the Finance Sub-Board
  • As directed by the Finance Director, lead the production of ad-hoc modelling for inorganic growth and on the post-transaction integration of acquisitions from a Finance Department perspective
  • Lead the preparation and development of 5-year budgets and forecasts, delivering ad-hoc reports and rolling budgets as required by the Management and Executive Boards
  • Business partnering with front office stakeholders, working closely and collaboratively with senior management, notably providing analysis to guide key decision making particularly around hires, succession plans, organic growth, etc.
  • Collaborating with the Management and Executive Board’s to establish more effective processes and controls to ensure the integrity of a company’s financial processes
  • Overseeing all financial control activities, including the review and analysis of monthly and quarterly numbers and disclosures
  • Summarising budget trends, analysing deficiencies and reporting variances to Management and Executive Boards
  • Providing external auditors with necessary documentation and support through the external audit process
  • Assisting with year-end processes, audits and statutory accounts preparation
  • Lead all reporting and comms with regard to front office pay, including the preparation of validation/commission statements on a monthly basis
  • Lead on the production of year-end Accounts Packs, quarterly VAT Returns and 6-monthly Gabriel Returns
  • Use technical expertise to improve the efficiency of MI reporting, collaborating with colleagues to introduce and develop “Power BI” reporting
  • Line management of the Finance Team (delegated as appropriate to the next level of seniority)
  • A degree of delegated supervision from the FD, with emphasis on delivering technical expertise in accounting matters
