Environmental and Compliance ManagerOur client is a long established Waste Management, recycling and haulage company based in North Somerset and they operate across all of Somerset. They operate a number of transfer stations, aggregates recycling centres and inert/hazardous tipping facilities under standard and bespoke Environment Agency permits.We are looking for a suitably qualified and/or experienced person to manage the day to day environmental and compliance aspects of their business. You should have experience of dealing with the Environment Agency and local authorities on a number of matters including permits, planning applications, CL:AIRE protocols and fire plans. You should also be capable of interpreting test reports and advising on disposal and be able to maintain a material sampling and testing regime using third party labs.You will be responsible for the maintenance of their environmental management system and manage the audit programme, reporting to Directors on environmental issues.Knowledge of the operation, management and testing regimes for inert landfill, land and quarry reclamation projects would be an advantage.Experience or interest in Health & Safety and fire prevention/training is desirable.Working towards additional relevant qualifications is encouraged and funded by us (WAMITAB/CIWM/IOSH).Candidates should be able to demonstrate their experience and ability to:Sample waste material and soils. Send to 3rd party laboratory for analysis of contamination, WAC, LOI and asbestos. Interpret laboratory results and advise management of available options for treatment and disposal.Prepare and submit applications for environmental permits including management plans, risk assessments, fire prevention plans and waste recovery plans.Prepare and submit for approval Materials Management Plans under the CL:AIRE Definition of Waste: Code of Practice allowing reuse of clean excavated material without the need for a permit or exemption.Salary is expected to be in the range of £40-45k but that may change depending on experience etc.A company vehicle will be included or a car allowance. Hours are standard 40 hour week but can be flexible on start and finish times.The job will be based in WestonYou will need to travel on a regular basis across the whole of Somerset with occasional trips to neighbouring counties. Most of the travel will be in North Somerset.YOU will have one or two staff reporting to you .
