Job Description

Job Title: Senior Science TechnicianLocation: Ealing, Mainstream Secondary SchoolSalary: £15.00 - £18.00 per hourEmployment Type: Full-Time, Long-TermAre you an experienced Science Technician with a passion for working in education We are seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join our team as a Senior Science Technician, focusing on all 3 Physics, Chemistry and Biology, at our Mainstream SecondarySchool in Ealing. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting the science department, assisting teachers, and ensuring the smooth operation of our science labs.Responsibilities:

  1. Lab Preparation:Prepare and set up physics, chemistry and biology experiments and demonstrations in advance of lessons, ensuring all equipment and materials are readily available.
  2. Equipment Maintenance:Maintain and oversee the proper functioning of physics, chemistry and biology lab equipment, including repairs and replacements when necessary.
  3. Health and Safety:Ensure that safety protocols and regulations are strictly followed within the physics, chemistry and biology labs, including the safe disposal of hazardous materials.
  4. Inventory Management:Keep accurate records of stock levels, ordering supplies and chemicals as required, and maintaining an organised inventory system.
  5. Assistance to Teachers:Assist science teachers during practical lessons, providing guidance to students on using equipment and conducting experiments effectively.
  6. Supporting Students:Offer additional support to students during experiments, helping them grasp the principles of physics and enhancing their learning experience.
  7. Collaboration:Collaborate with other science technicians to share best practices and ensure the efficient operation of all science labs.
  8. Administrative Duties:Assist with administrative tasks such as preparing risk assessments, maintaining equipment manuals, and managing the departments budget.
Requirements:
  1. Experience:Previous experience working as a Science Technician in a school laboratory.
  2. Qualifications:A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant science field is preferred.
  3. Knowledge:Strong knowledge of physics, chemistry and biology principles, laboratory techniques, and safety protocols.
  4. Organisational Skills:Exceptional organisational skills to manage inventory, equipment, and lab schedules efficiently.
  5. Communication:Effective communication skills to collaborate with teachers, students, and other staff members.
  6. Adaptability:Ability to adapt to the changing needs of a dynamic school environment.
  7. Health and Safety:A thorough understanding of health and safety regulations related to school laboratories.
  8. Problem-Solving:Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot equipment issues and provide solutions.
