Job Description

The hourly rate is £20.88phResponsibilities will cover a number of areas such as:

  • Provide expert advice, support, training and leadership in all aspects of health and safety
  • Investigation health and safety incidents, including Serious Incidents (SI) to identify relevant rout causes, risk management strategies and support the sharing of lessons learnt.
  • Support the implementation, monitoring and compliance with other action plans resulting from audits undertaken by other department or external organisations, including statutory returns to external regulatory bodies
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Trust, contributing proactively to any relevant working groups to support the achievement of the Trusts Strategic priorities
  • In liaision with the Health and Safety Manager, ensure the Trust is made aware of new applicable legislation and guidance as it arises.
  • Effective liaision and communication with all Trust staff in relation to health and safety policies, procedures and guidelines ensuring that all staff are aware of their responsibilities.
  • Contribute to internal and external Trust publications as required
  • Provide health and safety advice, consultation and support to managers and staff
  • Liaise with external assessors and regulators, providing information and evidence as required.
  • Support the Health and Safety Manager in the development of an annual work plan in line with the needs of the organisation and statutory requirements
  • Support the Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Manager to ensure appropriate plans are in place and provide support to local managers in reviewing these.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of risk registers, maintaining an oversight on the implementation of strategic actions required to mitigate risks.
  • Undertake regular site inspections and audits and develop and monitor the implementation of action plans necessary to mitigate identified risks, escalating areas of concern in line with the Risk Management police for the Trust
  • Produce regular reports for Divisional and Corporate Health and Safety Groups, providing an effective overview of the Trust performance against key indicators for health and safety.
  • Represent the Trusts health and safety function at external meetings, forums and seminars
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Trust to provide a comprehensive and co-ordinated approach to risk mitigation across the Trust.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Trust, contributing proactively to any relevant working groups to support the achievement of the Trusts Strategic priorities
  • Skills required:
  • Health and Safety Qualification NEBOSH or higher
  • Knowledge and awareness of key national policy initiatives affecting the NHS.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation required to advise on all aspects of risk management
  • Ability to use windows applications and databases
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and meet deadlines
  • Ability to produce good quality written reports and analyse both quantative and qualitative data sets
  • Ability to adapt to change
  • Significant experience of working in a health and safety advisory post in a complex organisation
