Job Description

Our Client are a leading automotive engineering business based in the North East of England. The company currently require a talented Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join the business.Purpose of the Role:

  • Work within a team for design and development of new motor technologies and drivetrains for electric vehicle systems across a wide range of sectors including passenger car, aerospace, commercial vehicle, off-highway and agricultural vehicles.
  • Working within a wider project team the Electrical Design Engineer will be working alongside other design engineers, holding responsibility for the design and release of HV&LV (Class B) electrical sub-assemblies, and supporting design documentation throughoutthe product development lifecycle.
  • This includes, but is not limited to the electrical power distribution system and power unit communication with the power electronics.
  • Supporting the design team in power distribution and communication of Electrical design.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Product specification and requirement capture according to customer needs and industry best practice
  • Design and release of electrical circuitry and assemblies
  • Support testing and verification of electrical devices and assemblies
  • Support investigation and resolution of development, launch and field quality issues involving electrical assemblies
  • Support continuous improvement of departmental procedures
  • Technical mentoring and development of junior members of the electrical design team
  • Work as part of a project team to aid the successful delivery of projects, within the specified time, budget, to the specification and the required quality standards
  • Support collaborative project work
  • Undertake any other duties of which the knowledge, skills and experience required fall within a post holders position in the company
Skills Required:
  • Bachelors or advanced degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or Automation
  • Professional qualification such as CEng with, IET or similar is desirable
  • 5+ Years of industry experience
  • Knowledge of automotive industry electrical design standards
  • Experience with creepage and clearance standards
  • Strong first principles approach
  • Experienced user of schematic capture and PCB design tools
  • Awareness of electromagnetic FEA
  • Design of low voltage analogue and digital electronics for automotive ECUs
  • Experience developing work products in support of ISO26262 safety engineering process
  • Failure mode avoidance experience with knowledge of associated processes such as DFMEA, FTA and MTBF Calculation
  • Knowledge of best practice approaches for design in accordance with global EMC standards
  • Experience of design for manufacture and design for test
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary engineering project environment
