Job Description

QSHE ManagerLocation: Washington, NE38 8QASalary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annumThe company, based in Washington, are the market-leading manufacturer of specialist weaving machinery and ancillary equipment. They also manufacture Axminster carpets and are proudly embarking on a project to set up GBs largest Axminstercarpet manufacturing facility, in Washington.The company are actively recruiting for a QSHE Manager to join their growing team.The QSHE Managers purpose is to develop and manage the Companys health & safety, environmental and quality management systems ensuring compliance to relevant legislation. Work towards achieving relevant ISO standards. Maintain a safe place to work encouragingcontinuous improvement across the HSE remit.Site Remit:Site Lead: GTM, Alston Road & Walton Road, Washington, NE38 8QASite Cover: Ulster Yarns, Dewsbury & WakefieldTravel required to all sites.Experience

  • Role would suit an experienced H&S / Quality / Environmental Officer or Site Lead seeking their next step or to widen their remit.
  • Experience in developing and implementing management systems to ISO standards
  • 3-5 years experience working in a site lead role in a manufacturing / engineering environment
  • Ability to interpret complex legislation into practical solutions
  • Experience in a continuous improvement environment participating and/or leading in improvement projects
Qualification
  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health and/or (or equivalent)
  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Environmental Management (or equivalent)
  • Engineering related qualification may be advantageous
  • Internal auditor or Lead Auditor qualification
  • Knowledge, experience or qualification to be a competent Risk Assessor / COSHH Assessor

Main Duties & Responsibilities:Management Systems, Audit, Legal Compliance & Insurance:
  • Establish and maintain effective HSEQ management systems to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and work towards the achievement of relevant ISO standards
  • Put a programme in place to ensure the site achieves IMO accreditation
  • Prepare for and take the lead on external audits and/or compliance visits from regulatory bodies
  • Address non-compliance matters in line with agreed timeframes
  • Identify areas for improvement within all management systems
Risk Management:
  • Review, develop and implement relevant HSEQ policies and procedures to ensure risk is managed across the remit.
  • Co-ordinate a programme of risk assessment & internal audit ensuring follow up actions are taken within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Ensure a programme of statutory inspections are in place and up to date i.e. LOLER, PUWER, FLT, PAT.
  • Ensure effective Contractor Management arrangements are in place to include site safety while working on site, RAMS, SSOW, Permit to Work etc.
  • Co-ordinate regular internal site inspections documenting and reporting on good practice, opportunities for improvement, relevant data sampling and readings
Accident & Incident Reporting:
  • Co-ordinate and lead on any onsite emergencies with regards to both safety such as accidents, fire etc. and/or environmental incidents such as chemical spill, pollution to land/air etc.
  • Complete and document thorough accident and incident investigations to identify the root cause
  • Propose and implement suitable short and long resolutions to prevent recurrence
  • Report to and liaise with relevant regulatory, insurance and licenced bodies as required
Product Quality & QMS
  • Ensure governance of site Quality Management System (QMS), leading continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure operational compliance to product and process specifications
  • Promote a strong quality awareness culture throughout the business and initiating, encouraging and measuring quality improvements
  • Co-ordinate internal product testing and external product certification as a support function for production and sales teams
  • Manage the Customer Complaints process to ensure prompt resolution, investigation and establishment of root cause and preventative actions to the satisfaction of our customers.
Communication, Engagement & Development:
  • Co-ordinate relevant communication structures to ensure key objectives are agreed, communicated, and reviewed regularly e.g. H&S Committee, Quality and Environmental Review Meetings.
  • Ensure the relevant Company personnel is provided with legal updates as necessary
  • Actively engage with employees across all areas of the business to promote positive progress towards achieving the relevant HSEQ standards.
  • Provide all new employees with HSEQ induction training relevant to their job role. Arrange ongoing refresher training as appropriate.
  • Ensure the Company is suitably resourced with First Aiders, AED users, Fire Marshalls, Manual Handling, and Internal Auditors.
