Transport Shielding Expert - Permanent - Based Warrington, Cheshire - £52911 - £65007 with excellent benefitsDuties and ResponsibilitiesTo provide an in-house radiation shielding capability in support of delivering the companys strategic objectives.The capability will produce the necessary radiation protection input to the design process to facilitate package licensing for the company, NDA Estate and external customersAt the outset the role will involve setting up this capability with the ability to influence key decisions as to its efficient operation e.g. choice of assessment software and hardwareCultivate and liaise with external contacts and key stakeholders including customers, regulators and suppliersWorks closely with all areas of the business, and in particular the Engineering design, analysis and Licensing sections to deliver solutions to support new business and current contracts and provide strategic direction to the Design Authority/design process for transport of radioactive materialsProvide and support the effective delivery of radiation protection features and guidance as part of the engineering requirements for radioactive materials transport for a variety of internal and external customers and projectsProduce, review and check technical solutions and submissions to transport regulators and client organisationsThe role requires an experienced, industry-leading radiation shielding practitioner who can deliver a range of analytical techniques in support of a number of engineering activities and projects for radioactive materials transportThe role requires knowledge of the relevant transport regulations and their application to the companys activitiesConsistent with the companys Intelligent Customer function, the role holder will have the confidence and experience to manage the technical contributions of third-party suppliers of shielding assessment services.In addition to participate, as appropriate, in the development of future safety criteria of relevance to the companys businessGood presentation skills would be a valuable asset to enable representation of the company at national and international industry fora and technical conferencesProvide Peer reviews of other Transport shielding safety reportsUndertake knowledge management initiatives to build a robust and enduring Transport shielding assessment capabilityInitiation and delivery of relevant training sessions and programmesMaintain and expand personal expertise and demonstrate an appropriate level of understanding of ongoing developments within the shielding assessment field.In particular ensure software remains fit for purpose in light of developments in the field and related fieldsDissemination of knowledge and mentoring within the team to aid future-proofing capabilityRequires an understanding of other technical disciplines such as criticality safety, which contribute to the overall safety of a transport packageThis role profile should be seen as a guide to the main responsibilities and duties of this role and not as a permanent, definitive statement.The business will change and develop, and the responsibilities and duties may vary from time to time.Person Specification In your written application, please give evidence of proven experience in response to as many of the criteria listed below as possibleThe Attributes: Qualifications, experience and skills required are:Essential:Recognised expert practitioner in radiation shieldingProven track record in the technical leadership of radiation shielding assessmentGood first degree in a STEM subject and further degree and/or professionally qualified;
