Job Description

Transport Criticality Safety Expert - Permanent - Based Warrington, Cheshire - £52911 - £65007 with excellent benefitsDuties and Responsibilities To provide an in-house criticality safety assessment capability in support of delivering the companys strategic objectives.The capability will produce the necessary input to the design process to facilitate fissile material package licensing for the company, NDA Estate and external customersThe role may involve setting up this capability with the ability to influence key decisions as to its efficient operation e.g. choice of assessment software and hardwareCultivate and liaise with external contacts and key stakeholders including customers, regulators and suppliersWorks closely with all areas of the business, and in particular the Engineering design, analysis and Licensing sections to deliver solutions to support new business and current contracts and provide strategic direction to the Design Authority/design process for transport of fissile radioactive materialsProvide and support the effective delivery of criticality safety assessment and guidance as part of the engineering requirements for fissile radioactive materials transport for a variety of internal and external customers and projectsProduce, review and check technical solutions and submissions to transport regulators and client organisationsThe role requires an experienced, industry-leading criticality safety practitioner who can deliver a range of analytical techniques in support of a number of engineering activities and projects for fissile material transportThe role requires significant applicable knowledge of the relevant transport regulations and their application to the companys activitiesConsistent with the companys Intelligent Customer function, the role holder will have the confidence and experience to manage the technical contributions of third-party suppliers of criticality safety assessment services.And also, to participate, as appropriate, in the development of future safety criteria of relevance to the companys businessGood presentation skills would be a valuable asset to enable representation of the company at national and international industry fora and technical conferencesProvide Peer reviews of other Transport criticality safety reportsUndertake knowledge management initiatives to build a robust and enduring Transport criticality safety assessment capabilityInitiation and delivery of relevant training sessions and programmesMaintain and expand personal expertise and demonstrate an appropriate level of understanding of ongoing developments within the criticality safety assessment field.In particular ensure software remains fit for purpose in light of developments in the field and related fieldsDissemination of knowledge and mentoring within the team to aid future-proofing capabilityRequires an understanding of other technical disciplines such as shielding safety, which contribute to the overall safety of a transport packageThis role profile should be seen as a guide to the main responsibilities and duties of this role and not as a permanent, definitive statement.The business will change and develop, and the responsibilities and duties may vary from time to time.The Attributes:Qualifications, experience and skills required are:Essential:Recognised expert practitioner in criticality safety applicable to transportProven track record in the technical leadership of criticality safety assessmentGood first degree in a STEM subject and further degree and/or professionally qualified; prior SQEP status may substitute for formal qualifications if adequately demonstratedDetailed knowledge/understanding/experience of IAEA SSR 6 and SSG 26 in support of criticality safety assessment requirements in for fissile material transportAbility to run criticality modelling calculations and interpret the results (using Regulator recognised codes such as MONK and MCNP)Good interpersonal and presentation skillsDesirable:Typically, greater than 10 years experience across a range of criticality safety assessments, with recent evidence of criticality safety assessment relevant to fissile material transport packagesAbility to demonstrate a strong academic background and have developed an area of technical specialismChartered status or membership of a professional institute is desirable but not essentialUnderstanding of the implications of developments in software and hardware to maintain peak efficiency in assessments.To instigate local developments where appropriatePersonal Characteristics:Commitment and dedication to achieving the Companys objectivesA high level of applied professionalism, with clearly demonstrated honesty and integrityInitiative and the ability to drive new ideasDemonstrate the confidence to challenge and question established practicesEffective communication skills both written and oralHigh levels of self-motivationCapita Resourcing welcome applications from all suitably qualified people regardless of gender, race, disability, age or sexual orientation.Capita Resourcing is a trading name of Capita Resourcing Ltd.
