Job Description

Specialist Biomedical Scientist Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation TrustOur vision is High Quality, Safe Healthcare and our staff work together to provide excellent health care services, if you’re passionate about making a difference and would like to be a part of our exciting and progressive NHS Foundation Trust then we welcome you to apply below.We have a vacancy for an experienced Histology Specialist Biomedical Scientist (BMS1 – Band 6) in our Histology Department.The department currently processes approximately 17 000 Histology requests and 1 600 Non-Gynae Cytology specimens per year.The role is varied and involves rotation around the different sections of the department, including:

  • Cut Up / Specimen dissection.
  • Embedding
  • Microtomy and cryotomy
  • Staining (including routine, special stains and immunohistochemistry)
  • Non Gynaecological Cytology
  • Quality control
    • There is also involvement in supervision, training and appraisal of Support Staff, Associate Practitioners and Trainee Biomedical Scientists, and in other duties including audit and review of Standard Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments.We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and well-motivated HCPC registered BMS with a BSc. (Hons.) in Biomedical Science or equivalent and an IBMS Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology or equivalent experience.The successful applicant must have extensive relevant technical experience and will be highly motivated and enthusiastic. The position involves taking a leading role in achieving daily workload targets therefore effective interpersonal and communication skills are crucial. The ability to work efficiently as part of a team and be able to prioritise work in order to meet strict deadlines is essential.Candidates will require experience in training and supervision of staff and evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD). You will also require information technology skills and must be conversant with laboratory data management systems.
