Job Description

Shipping Administrator CheshireWe have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Shipping Clerk to join a successful Logistics provider in the UK. The role will have a large focus on the customs clearance side, therefore experience is essential for any successful candidate to be considered for this position.The role will be supporting on the Customs Clearance which involves the preparation of Customs documentation so that commodities can enter or exit one country to another (import/export outside the EU), whilst ensuring all legal requirements are met in accordance with HMRC regulations.This is a standalone position although you will work within a team reporting to the department manager. We are looking for experienced and highly confident individuals who can manage their own workload.Duties and Responsibilities.

  • Excellent numerical skills are essential due to the calculation of VAT and Duty on behalf of HMRC
  • Signing of documents under a Power of Attorney on behalf of clients
  • Recognise client commercial invoice(s) and packing list(s) extracting data as necessary to complete import and export declarations
  • Liaising with importers/exporters and internal operational colleagues to obtain mandatory information for import and export entries
  • Entering details onto specialised Customs software including CHIEF, CNS, Destin8, NCTS, NES etc. and Aiding clients on the classification of goods and their importance
  • Preparation of necessary import/export documentation, including Tdocuments, EUR1’s, Certificates of Origin (CofO), CVED and other cargo control documents, as well as discharge process of T-documents.
  • Liaise with Port Health or Customs officials in areas such as document checks, goods quarantine etc
  • Key skills and qualifications of a Customs Clearance Clerk. Previous experience working in a similar role is advantageous
  • Have a good understanding of Customs legal requirements and the impact of incorrect information and/or Customs declarations - Excellent attention to detail is imperative
  • Strong communication skills are vital in this role both written and verbally, as you will be required to compile documentation and be able to interpret the legal requirements on behalf of customers in a clear and simple way
  • Complex problem solving and the ability to engage critical thinking skills will be required as well as the ability to actively listen and interpret concisely
  • Ability to operate windows-based applications and any other software that is standard within the industry
  • Work in a fast-paced environment ensuring clearance processes are completed in a compliant and timely manner
