Head of Communications - STFC Daresbury LaboratoryOrganisation: Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) - Strategy, Planning and CommunicationsContract Type: Fixed Term Contract - 9 MonthsExternal Closing Date: Dec 20, 2020Minimum Salary: Pound Sterling (GBP) 49,708Hours: Full-timeThe role is based within STFC’s communications team and Strategy Planning and Communications (SPC) Directorate. The post holder will work collaboratively with communications teams across STFC Daresbury Laboratory (DL), STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) and UK Astronomy Technology Centre (UK ATC), as well as with UKRI through the Communications Business Partner. Together these teams advise on communications issues and risks; develop and implement communications strategy; and develop and integrate content across a range of channels, both traditional and digital, in support of communications campaigns for STFC and UKRI.As an active member of the SPC Leadership team the post holder will be expected to attend frequent strategy meetings, business continuity meetings and major project meetings to represent and advise on communications.The role leads, develops and delivers a programme of activity to raise external awareness of, and interaction with, STFC and specifically with DL, amongst key stakeholder groups. It has a particular regional focus on the North including the UK ATC in Edinburgh.The role requires direct engagement with parliamentarians, senior policymakers and other key external stakeholders to enable them to join and inform debates about current issues, raising awareness of DL and its research and providing evidence and solutions to inform decision-making. It will also build DL’s role and profile and its advocacy base in order to gain positive recognition for the role of the laboratory across all stakeholder groups, including Government.The role requires the ability, skills and experience to manage and lead an integrated communications team across external and internal communications, content and social media with line management of a team across DL , UK ATC and STFC.List of Duties/Work Programme/ResponsibilitiesThe post holder will report jointly to the STFC Director of SPC and the UKRI Head of Council Communications and have line management responsibility for up to five staff with a dotted line relationship to the Head of the Daresbury Laboratory.The main duties of the post are to:
