Job Description

About United UtilitiesUnited Utilities provides water and sewage services to seven million people across the North West. Its a big job and a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly for our customers. From operating our pipes and improving water quality, to embracing new technologies and safeguarding the local environment - whether youre in our head office or out on site, theres always plenty going on. Your role will include providing process engineering services within United Utilities project delivery and operations structure. Of course you will be also be a participant in the development of United Utilities engineering standards, systems and procedures. Job Accountabilities

  • Within the first two years of your three year programme, we want you to have developed your process engineering skills in water, wastewater and sludge treatment processes and gained an understanding of the technologies used, together with our company standards and procedures.
  • You will also work alongside other Engineering disciplines such as civil, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and modelling. We believe working in an inter-disciplinary team is a key requirement in order to deliver innovative, reliable and cost effective solutions that are sustainable and safely commissioned, operated and maintained.
  • During your programme, you will be expected to become familiar with the operations structure of United Utilities and how it interacts with engineering. You will develop an ability to troubleshoot operational issues, identify opportunities to optimise processes and provide engineering support to operations.
  • We are a Silver Corporate Partner with the IChemE with an accredited engineering programme and we aim to have our graduates ready to apply for chartership by the end of their fourth year with the company.
  • You will develop skills to run pilot plants and operational trials, understanding the data and information generated in the trial and make recommendations on next steps as well as developing your understanding and knowledge of process safety analysis techniques such as; HAZOP and HAZCOM.
  • Gaining knowledge of the regulatory environment is important in meeting our objectives and you will be expected to gain this from work experience and training.
  • No two days are ever the same. Its a mix of office based and site work, and we cover everywhere from Crewe to Carlisle.
  • We want you to show the ability to contribute as an effective team member, working alongside other engineering disciplines as well as other stakeholders in the business. Being a team player is crucial.
  • You must have good communication skills and the ability to write clear, concise, accurate engineering design specifications with measurable outputs.
  • Knowledge and Skills
  • 2:1 Accredited Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Good written and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Good team working skills
  • Desirable Criteria
  • Education in aspects of Water and/or Wastewater treatment.
