Job Description

About the roleTo provide excellent quality support and interventions to customers experiencing or likely to experience a mental health crisis as an alternative to using statutory crisis services. To support customers to reduce their crisis and to make plans to avoidfuture crisis. To liaise with statutory and other voluntary sector providers of mental health services to promote multi-agency working for the benefit of the customers.To carry out support and interventions in line with organisational values and ethos of recovery and co-production, as well as in line with policies and procedures.

  • To motivate customers to identify causes of crises and to prevent these issues triggering crisis in the future.
  • To develop simple yet effective safety plans with the individual users to proactively manage their mental health and wellbeing and to avoid the use of crisis services such as A&E
  • To carry out individual one to one session with customers and, where appropriate, to support them to develop their own wellness, recovery action plan.
  • To assist customers to develop their social networks to attend mainstream or specialist educational, leisure and health related activities to support positive mental health and wellbeing in the future.
About you
  • Demonstrable experience of working with individuals who have experienced mental health difficulties
  • Knowledge of issues affecting those individuals with a range of mental health conditions, how to communicate effectively with these individuals and how to support them with dignity and respect.
  • Takes appropriate steps in empowering customers to make choices and take appropriate control for their mental health to achieve appropriate levels of independence.
  • Knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation, in particular Care Program Approach (CPA) processes.
  • Understanding of the principles of recovery as an ethos and a range of recovery approaches
  • Ability to work as part of a team, on own initiative and to oversee induction of new peer staff and volunteers
  • Awareness of health and safety issues
  • Demonstrates commitment to co-producing service delivery with customers by ensuring that all activity is aligned to support customers to reduce their MH crisis and develop strategies for better mental health and welling in the future
  • Ability to work at evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Effectively works as part of a team, values colleagues opinions, and ideas
  • Good IT skills that include a working knowledge of functions in MS Word, Outlook, and the internet
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills and able to produce clear written correspondence in hard copy or email.
  • Ability to complete and record basic financial transactions, i.e., managing petty cash
  • Ability to use a computer system to accurately record customer visits.
