Job Description

Salary - £11,646.45 per annumResponsible for: Overseeing the Kitchen operations during weekend in the absence of the Chef Manager.Hours of Work: 18 hours per week, worked on a rota basis, including evenings, weekends and public holidays or generally worked within office hours, Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work.Job PurposeThe Chef will support the Chef Manager in the smooth running of the kitchen and front of house. The Chef has operational responsibility for the smooth running of the catering service whilst on duty directing kitchen staff, dealing with enquiries, bookings,incidents and complaints as they occur. They will assist in maximising catering business and contribute towards meeting relevant financial targets by promoting the organisational values through a passion for cooking and catering.Duties and ResponsibilitiesCatering

  • Cook menu cycles for service users/customers, taking into account the type of provision required, cost, portion control and ensuring that food prepared is nutritional and varied.
  • Ensure all kitchen and front of house procedures are being followed. These will include procedures on cleaning, stock rotation, Safer Food Better Business, opening and closing procedures.
Staff Management
  • Provide support and coaching to the staff team, ensuring clarity of direction, effective communication and personal and professional development.
  • Support the Chef Manager with staff rotas, staff cover, and absence cover for sickness and annual leave.
Finance and Budgetary Management
  • Support the Chef Manager by maintaining accurate uptake records, and support the production of reports as and when required by management.
  • Report fluctuations in demand, prepare additional dishes and special diet requests as required.
Health & Safety
  • Ensure that kitchen staff are aware of emergency procedures and carry them out in the kitchen when required.
  • Ensure that the Safer Food Better Business for Caterers standards are being carried out by all staff who work in the kitchen. This includes temperature controls relating to food, including maintenance of records.
Customer Care
  • Resolve service user/customer complaints where practicable. Record service user/customer complaints or comments about the food served in the restaurant.
General
  • Able to proficiently use IT systems, including working with databases, Microsoft office, email, internet
  • Attend all relevant training and development programmes.
