Job Description

Salary: Band 6, £27,735 - £29,874 pro rata (£13,825 - £18,166 per annum)Location: Agile, Middle Engine Lane Police Station and homeworkingHours/Contract: Permanent, 22.5 hours per weekThe roleHere at Northumbria Police, we think our region is amazing! It takes a great deal of people from different backgrounds, with diverse skills and experience to serve our force area effectively, think you have what it takes to help us make a difference Thiscould be the perfect time for you to join us in our Legal Department as a Civil Claims Investigator.As the Civil Claims Investigator for Northumbria Police, you will investigate civil claims made against the Chief Constable to inform decisions by solicitors to defend or settle claims. To investigate Allard claims’ made against the Chief Constables ofNorthumbria Police, Cleveland Police and Durham Constabulary, being a subject matter expert (SME) in respect of the process and methodology for all claims received.What you’ll do

  • Investigate civil claims against the Chief Constable, gathering and assessing evidence and making preliminary decisions to inform final decisions by the Senior Lawyer (Civil claims) whether to defend or to settle cases.
  • Provide an initial assessment of civil claims as an indication of the level of investigation required.
  • Interrogate force computer systems and data bases in support of investigations.
  • Interview witnesses; obtain witness statements, documentary and other evidence.
  • Provide written updates and assessments on the outcome of investigations.
  • Assess and prepare material for disclosure to claimants or their representatives.
What you’ll bring
  • A proven ability to conduct investigations and to collate and appraise relevant information.
  • The ability to organise and to manage allocated cases within time frames.
  • The ability to critically analyse information and to identify the sources of information necessary to progress an investigation.
  • A proven ability to work alone to investigate allocated claims or, as part of a team to contribute towards investigations.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to obtain information that is essential to the investigation and assessment of claims.
