Job Description

Reed Talent Solutions are currently working with a West Yorkshire based Local Authority to recruit a Supervising Technician on a long-term contract. The post-holder will assist the Workshop Manager in ensuring the economical and efficient repair and maintenanceof a diverse range of Council owned and other; vehicle, plant, and equipment fleets. Including privately owned vehicles.Role Information

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute actively in the overall management of Transport Services Unit.
  • Take responsibility for specific projects or ongoing areas of work within the Transport Services Unit, where appropriate leading small teams.
  • Oversee the organisation and implementation of technical work programmes and activities with particular emphasis on operational initiatives.
  • Establish effective working relationships with senior officers of other departments to enable Transport Service to play a full and effective role in the corporate working of the authority so that Council objectives can be achieved.
  • Meet the public and representatives of other Services and contractors as necessary and provide appropriate information on request.
  • Participate in the team working approach to the allocation of duties within Transport Services, where necessary leading small teams.
  • Adhere to and apply legislation, Council standing orders, constitution and procedures as appropriate
  • Apply all appropriate health and safety procedures relevant to the Transport Service and communicate and advise where necessary other staff of their responsibilities in this area and to report any concerns immediately.
  • Ensure all staff appraisals are undertaken within the remit of responsibility for the post.
  • Ensure that all aspects of work within the sphere of control of this post are carried out in accordance with the Councils Customer Care and Equal Opportunities policies.
  • Monitor and apply sickness absence processes in accordance with the Council’s procedure.
  • Participate in maintaining good employee relations and communicate fully with all staff within Transport Services Unit, as appropriate
  • Provide cover to other areas of work in response to changes in the workload and operational requirements.
  • Actively support both personal and staff development within the Service to ensure that individuals achieve their maximum potential contribution.
Essential Criteria
  • Post apprentice experience in Large Goods Vehicle, Light Goods or Horticultural Machinery
  • City and Guilds level 1 and 2 or NVQ level 3 in a motor vehicle engineering or equivalent trade.
  • Completion of a manual handling / safe lifting training course
  • Ability to formulate, understand and follow risk assessments and deliver toolbox talks.
  • A good knowledge of all-modern vehicles, plant and horticultural machinery.
