Job Description

What a role! Were recruiting for a reptuable manufacturer who are a searching for a Purchasing Manager to lead a team of Operational Buyers whilst supporting the business in the developing sourcing stratgies for their Bill of Materials.The business has been very stable over the years, with a strong order book through to 2025. Whilst they have existing suppliers who collaborate with them on their forecast demand, they want to ensure that they manage any risks in the supply chain with Cost,Delivery, Quality & Innovation.By focusing on the key commodities, youll work cross functionally with Sales, R&D, Operations and Supply Chain to design robust commercial plans that meet the future needs of the business.Competencies: Business Acumen, Strategic Agility, Priority Setting,Informing, Ethics and Values, Dealing with Paradox, Problem Solving, Action Orientated, Timely Decision Making, Drive for Results, Functional Technical Skills and Interpersonal Savvy.Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and implement relevant commodity strategies taking into account the Sales Forecast, LRP and known Market Conditions.
  • Negotiate long term agreements for NPI and Series production components.
  • Create bid lists ensuring local and global strategies are followed where possible.
  • Lead and communicate progress of supply chain cost reduction projects.
  • Evaluate part designs with engineering, quality and suppliers to obtain maximum efficiencies and best costs.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Design to implement the Design for Value process where possible.
  • Develop and report weekly KPI’s to measure progress against corporate goals.
  • Develop and maintain a system to show benchmark component cost data.
  • Understand market trends including competitor sourcing and the Global Supply Base for specific commodities.
  • Control short and long term capacity management.
  • Lead crisis management activities.
  • Support purchasing activities.
  • Build and maintain supplier relationships.
  • Maintain complex spread-sheets containing supply base data.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all work and personnel matters.
  • Ensure all actions contribute positively to the Company’s overriding objective of quality, by complying at all times with any relevant procedure that pursues this aim.
  • Project work and other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Experience:
  • Ideally Bachelors degree in Business, Engineering or related field.
  • Team management experience
  • 5 years purchasing experience (automotive and/or manufacturing).
  • Computer literate (MS Office).
  • MRP experience required
  • Good written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills
