An exciting opportunity has arisen at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust for an enthusiastic individual to join our team in the busy Microbiology Department at Pinderfields Hospital.Applicants for this position will be highly reliable, trustworthy and be able to work to tight deadlines under pressure. You will be a team worker as well as able to work on your own.A good, basic level of education is required that demonstrates a good understanding of the English language and a good level of numeracy.Good verbal and written communication skills are essential along with fast, accurate keyboard skills. An ability to follow instructions, work under pressure and demonstrate good manual dexterity will be an advantage.You will be required to input patient information onto the Laboratory computer system (iLab) so an understanding of English and keyboard skills are required. Successful applicants will need to be able to follow standard operating procedures as they will also be required to undertake other Laboratory duties as described in the job description which includes the reception and sorting of Laboratory specimens and their initial manipulation. The role will also include working with Laboratory equipment like autoclaves and centrifuges, as well as making up solutions and managing stock.The right candidate will have an interest in Biological Sciences and in working within a large team of Healthcare Scientists. Experience in a Medical Microbiology laboratory or closely related discipline would be advantageous, but is not essential; more important is your ability to work well with staff at all levels, contribute effectively to a team and deliver accurate work.
