Job Description

Job Type: Permanent Sector: General Insurance Specialism: Account Executive, Broker, Commercial, General Management, Senior Appointments Location: Yorkshire & Humberside Town/City: Wakefield Salary range: £50, 000 - £59, 999, £60, 000 - £69, 999, £70, 000- £79, 999, £80, 000 - £89, 999, £90, 000 - £99, 999 Salary Description: Six figure earning potential, plus LTIP Posted: 04-Sep-23 Start Date: ASAP Recruiter: Aston Charles Job Ref: RJ-1822HC Job Views: 6“If you’re craving autonomy and the opportunity to take an already high-performing Commercial Division to the next level, without having to follow a preset template, then I can offer you a job for life”, so says the MD of this thriving independent brokinghouse. Digging down further, it’s hard not to agree that this truly is an exciting opportunity where you can overhaul a successful commercial unit, exactly as you see fit!Warming to his theme, the MD continues, “Leading 3 Teams across Small Business, Commercial and Corporate Departments, you can choose if you have 2 direct reports or 20, you dictate the trading style, what business we write and how we write it, insurer relations, hiring, firing, you name it – it’s your gig”.Sitting on the Senior Management Team, you will control over £2M in commission and fee income across the above 3 departments (the bulk sitting within Commercial, which generally transacts business between £20,000 and £150,000 GWP). It’s not essential, butit is anticipated that you will be Account Gaudian on some of the larger cases (circa £500K premium spend risks), but this will be more about “talking to clients about their strategy, not their mid-terms”, as these cases will also have a Corporate AccountExecutive assigned to them. Should you wish to have a more ‘hands on’ Account Executive / Director element to your role, this can certainly be accommodated, and you can inherit some of the more complex risks in the Corporate Department. It’s worth noting thatthere is no expectation for the Head of Commercial to personally write new business, although you will of course be welcome to help in this regard if you choose to!It is essential that you have a sound working knowledge of the insurance industry (gained in either a broking or underwriting environment) together with a detailed knowledge of all common commercial covers. Whilst it is by no means necessary that you haveheld managerial or operations positions, you must have a sense of gravitas and authority; able to hold your own within the Senior Management Team, and secure the ‘buy-in’ of colleagues and clients alike. You must also have a strong strategic vision to be ableto lead and develop your teams and set the future direction of the business. As the above probably suggests, you’ll benefit from a very laid-back approach to hybrid-working, with no hard and fast expectations around weekly office attendance – or as the MD puts it, “the right candidate will know how often they need to be in the officein any given month, and if they need guidance from me on that, then they are probably not the best person for the job.”You will benefit from a generous basic salary, which when coupled with an annual bonus can easily push you north of six-figure earnings. Furthermore, there are long-term incentive plans that, subject to departmental growth, could easily trigger an additionalsix-figure bonus in the medium-term. You will also receive a car allowance and a variety of company benefits.Aston Charles - a personalised service from industry expertsGeneral Insurance and Financial Services Recruitment #J-18808-Ljbffr
