Our client a leading Freight Forwarding company is looking to appoint a Customs Supervisor at their office in the Wakefield area of West Yorkshire This is a fantastic opportunity to join an international Freight Forwarding, eCommerce & Logistics company as a Customs Supervisor, this organisation is well established and has grown organically year on year to become the business they are today. The Customs Supervisor will manage and develop the customs operations, ensuring that these operate efficiently & effectively. The role will be to assist the International Trade Compliance Manager in ensuring complaint standards are maintained within the scope of the Companies customs activities and AEO accreditation.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* Manage the day-to-day operational activities of the Customs department.* Manage and develop team members to enable operational activities to be met.* Manage the teams holiday requirements, ensuring that daily operations are covered at all times and that customer service is not affected.* Handle employee absences in line with Company policy.* Develop constructive working relationships with other departments and offices, resolving any concerns by ensuring that corrective action is taken.* Monitor and review our Duty/VAT exposure and ensuring goods are not released without payment or alternative agreed payment terms. * Maintain awareness of the Companies products.* Complete internal Customs audits as agreed with company policy.* Develop and provide training for customs staff as necessary.* Respond to customer and operational enquiries quickly and effectively.* Ensure customer records are maintained and necessary documentation is obtained from new customers and suppliers. * Assist with, where appropriate, external customs visits/audits.* Develop and implement effective operational systems and processes relevant to the customs activities of the company. * Immediately communicate to the Branch Manager any concerns that could affect the business;* Ensure that customs guarantees are maintained at the correct level.* Coach and develop staff at other offices involved in customs activities as required/requested.* Any other duties as required by management for the smooth and efficient operation of the department.EXPERIENCE REQUIRED* Experience from working for a freight forwarder* A broad understanding of the overall customs process* Knowledge of an Import / Export via Road freight * Excellent communication skills* Strong attention to detail* Good IT skills* Ability to work as part of a team or as an individual* Strong organisational & time management skillsBENEFITS£28,000 to £35,000 Basic SalaryPensionPerkboxChildcare vouchers and Cycle to work scheme Refer a friend scheme Required skills
