Job Description

Position Engineering ManagerLocation North EastSalary £55,000 - £60,000 + packageOur ClientOne of the largest and most successful privately owned construction and development groups in the UK who specialise in Student Accommodation, Commercial, Distribution, Education, Frameworks, Industrial, Leisure and more.This is an exciting opportunity for a Engineering Manager looking to join an established main contractor and work on prestigious projects throughout the region.Daily duties/key responsibilitiesWin Work

  • Review tenders to identity significant temporary works and evaluate solutions.
  • Work with pre-construction team to identity significant engineering matters (including network rail interfaces, 278 works, NRSWA Section 82 and 58 works, tunneling, river and sea works, cofferdams, deep drainage, retaining structures and demolition work)and develop/price solutions
  • Interrogate and challenge permanent solutions with design teams to optimise design and create competitive solutions.
  • Contribute to the Build the Job day.
Launch Project
  • Provide guidance to the project team on VCUK Engineering process and procedural requirements and the best way to deliver these
  • Work with project teams to embed Quality Management solutions (e.g. Field View)
  • Liaise with DDI to ensure suitable TWC appointed to each project
  • Advise on key engineering elements in the project and allowed for costs/solutions
  • Review operational plans and procedures as requested
  • Gives feedback on proposed subcontractors Temporary Works procedures (including Designer competencies)
Deliver Project
  • Undertake site visits to monitor compliance against procedures and standards
  • Liaise with DDI and Technical Services department to highlight any changes in Temporary Works/Engineering elements that may require their advice/input
  • Coaches and mentors TWC and Engineering resources on the project
  • Assist Quality Manager in driving Right First Time delivery
  • Work with project Quality Champion to review ITPs for key elements of work
  • Give advice and guidance to project teams and share best practice across projects
  • Feedback to HSEQ team highlighting areas for concern/improvement and assist in dissemination of Alerts
Complete post contract activities
  • Assist site teams in completing aftercare documentation
  • Provide advice and guidance on archiving and handover
  • Review project performance and feedback issues or best practice to the business
Competency (required):
  • Engineering knowledge and understanding to meet a minimum of HND level, proved by academic qualification
  • Up to date Control of Temporary Works training
  • Experienced in creation and implementation of ITPs
Competency (desirable/working towards):
  • CPCS Appointed Person (A61)
  • Chartered or Incorporated Civil or Structural engineer (ICE/IStructE), or member currently pursuing chartership programme
  • Experienced in coaching or mentoring
