pRIMARY SPECIALISTS NEEDED FOR A COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOLA comprehensive school in Rhondda Cynon Taf is about to welcome two statemented pupils into their Special Needs Resource Base in September. The pupils have a low academic and mental age which means they will require a nurturing and warm influence to help them develop in the school. Historically the school has been impressed by those coming from a primary background, or who have worked with children from nursery to age 11.An exciting but challenging role in a comprehensive school in CardiffFocus on working with pupils with special needs and challenging behaviour8:20- 15:00 – Monday - Friday7th September start dateFull time role for the remainder of the academic yearPermanent contract offered following a successful probationary period£60-70 per dayAll backgrounds and personalities are encouraged to applyYou willbe working in a small class size of eight pupils who have complex needs, however, you will be specifically assigned to one of the new pupils based on your experiences and personality fit. The two new pupils do not have complex additional needs, so no specific special needs experience is necessary. They do have ADHD and struggle to focus in mainstream lessons. They will need constant encouragement and support. The ideal candidates must be able to demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and be confident in establishing a strong rapport with the children.The children come from challenging backgrounds and home lives so naturally some of their behaviour stems from issues going on at home. You must be able to be firm but empathetic. The pupils have very little consistency so need you to be able to guide them with behavioural and social interactions around the school. Patience and resilience is essential to the role!A typical day will consist of assisting the class teacher while they take the class as a whole, but you will then be divided into pairs or individuals to complete activities/ assist with reading or writing. Workshops and interventions will involve you mentoring pupils on specific skills such as handwriting, crafts or emotional wellbeing and creating a positive learning environment for all.The school is looking to support the successful candidates with their personal growth and development and are keen to help you progress throughout your role in the school.All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role.
