Job Description

Two VIP-Client schools in the valleys are looking for three full-time gradates to support specifically in their English and Literacy departments. The roles have been created from government COVID funding and start immediately until the end of July.

  • Classroom Support Staff with a strong ability in English Literature and Language
  • The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level- Graduates in English, Humanities, Psychology and Languages are highly desirable. Note: The same school is looking for similar support within their maths and Science departments next week – so applicants from any area of study are encouraged to apply
  • Full time School Hours – Monday to Friday – 8:30 – 15:00
  • November – July role. The school have expressed an interest in taking successful candidates onto a permanent school contract subject to their availability
  • £60-£75 daily rate
  • Those who have taught English as a Foreign Language via TEFL, CELTA or other tuition means are also successful in these types of roles, particularly when it comes to working with pupils who have a low command of the English language, verbally as well at written.
  • In a typical day you will lead small-group or one-to-one ‘intervention’ lessons to pupils who have been identified as needing the extra support with their reading or writing. Learning is tailored around individuals who do not necessarily cope within mainstream subjects. Although you will be largely supporting low ability classes, you will also be required to help more advanced pupils who are on track to get certain grades, but who have struggled to maintain their learning during the pandemic, for example- they might have been on track to achieve a B-grade in GCSE English last year but are now working at D-Grade level.Understandably, not every pupil is going to be the ‘model student’ and a lot of the kids receiving extra tuition are going to be frosty in the initial instance to a new face. Ultimately, you will need to be thick skinned and able to cope with stubborn and sometimes challenging behaviour. Often a reluctance to engage in the work is due to their own embarrassment of being able to complete tasks their peers are finding simple. It is a distraction so empathy, patience and a genuine interest to get to know each pupil is vital to success in this role.Work will be set by the English Teacher, specifically the head of progress for that particular year group who will work closely with you to assess each pupils learning needs, as well as other concerns you might observe which might not necessarily affect their academic success, but are causing distress in the emotional and domestic aspects of their lives. There might also be the odd occasion where you will need to cover a mainstream English class If a senior member of the English faculty is called away. By this point you will be a familiar presence in the school and the work will already be set with a clear lesson plan for you to follow. This isn’t regular but provides candidates with a hands-on, interactive experience of teaching which has been invaluable to PGCE applications for candidates in previous years. All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see faqs for details. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided. For details of our privacy policy, please see privacy-notice
